When did that become a word?
Comments (10)I don't know what it is about "orientated" that gives me that popsicle-stick-scraping-on-my-teeth reaction, maybe I just hate redundant syllables? I am forever being asked to "orientate" someone, and I say, "Sure, I'd be happy to orient them, and be a helpful source during job orientation". Once one has been ORIENTED to a particular job, I'm pretty sure they know just as much as one who has been ORIENTATED, but somehow the process was much more efficient, not having had to go through all that extra 'tating'. Funny, I always thought the Brits, because of their love of spelling words with extra, largely unvoiced letters, were all the more succinct in pronunciation, maybe as penance. So much for THAT theory!...See Morewhen did buying a toilet become so complicated?
Comments (12)I've narrowed my choices to the Promenade & the Clayton toilets and pedestal sinks. I like the Clayton better but DH prefers the Promenade. This will go in our pool bath which will also be used by guests. I'm not sure if the Promenade not having the G-max system is such a big deal or not or if the price difference between the two suites is justified. For the other three baths I decided on Ultramax for the master and kids bath and Drake for the guest suite....See MoreWhen did Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup become so blah?
Comments (54)oops! sorry. hit a wrong button. I wanted to comment on Campbell's soup. I totally agree about the taste. Dish water is a good discription of the chicken noodle now. and the Tomato, one of my favs, is so bland as well. I remember my mother making soup for us 6 kids and the condensed soup was really what you would call condensed. one regular can of tomato came out of the can in a almost can shaped mass and the directions said to add 3 cans of water! you had to really stir it like mad to get that condensed soup to mix smoothly with the water to create the creamy soup, it was that thicke! and it tasted great! Soup was an economical way to feed a family then. not so much now! Now you only mix in 1 can of water and the "condensed" soup just runs out of the can. really there is no sense adding any water because what you get now is red water, no longer the thick and creamy packed with tomato flavor. bland and watery. same for the chicken noodle. they just keep cheapening the product, like people wont notice. I get the whole "let's get rid of all the artificial crap and high sodium and make this healthier because that's what people want. but if you can't do that and still produce a product that tastes good and people want to buy it, you might as well realize your product is done. people are buying now on nostalgia only and eventually Campell's Soup will be no more....See MoreWhen did you become interested in decorating?
Comments (23)Like most on here, I got the decorating gene from my mother. My dad, as my mom used to say, has pretty good taste when it comes to liking unique things, but he has zero ability to put them together coherently. That was the source of many arguments between my parents, and now that mom is gone, dad's condo looks like a circus tent. I'm probably exaggerating a wee bit. He still has a lot of mom's great stuff, so it isn't that bad. His new additions . . . In defense of his side of the family, dad's sisters had pretty good taste so I get it from both sides. I have some lovely pieces from all of them. I'm not a natural when it comes to decorating as far as knowing what to do, thinking out of the box, which I why I come here. But I know what does and does not look good when it is finished. As a kid I followed mom along to country auctions, helped her pick fabrics and wallpapers as she redecorated the family home, helped her refinish furniture, make curtains and tablecloths, etc. I used to make my own Barbie doll furniture and had several "apartments" arranged on shelves in my bedroom. I also cut pictures out of catalogs and magazines to create rooms for my paper dolls. My lovely creative mom was the source of my inspiration and she nurtured it. Like everyone else, when I was on my own, I tried to make a LOOOOONG series of apartments look nice with whatever I could scrounge or occasionally buy, but I've only rarely had enough money for more than just the basics. A few times I relished buying some of the nice things I have now. Other things I inherited one way or the other, cast offs from grandma, mom, friends, aunts, etc. When I bought my first house, I started seriously studying indoor decor. Like April, I am interested in how the environment affects your moods and ads or detracts from your quality of life. Both outside, and then later inside. I bought some decorating theory books and even found a free feng shui book at the dump, ahem recycling center. That's when I started posting here, it was a daunting task for me which started with a disaster of a paint color choice, so I still sympathize with the many posters here who start on this forum, finding themselves in the same boat as I was in. I finally got my house pretty much the way I wanted it, but then sadly had to move. Now I am ever so slowly trying to re-inhabit the house I inherited from my parents, with most of my late mother's lovely things in it. Like Marie Kondo, I want to do justice to her things, at least the nice ones that "spark joy" in me. The rest of the stuff, I'm trying to get rid of. It's been frustratingly slow. I come here to mostly dream now....See MoreAnnegriet
