Since you have 3 bathrooms that sound quite large, I would leave a tub in one of them and then do exactly what you want in the other 2 bathrooms. Whoever designed your house sure did love the long vanities! I'm stunned by those measurements. It could look a little odd to have counters that long with just one sink, so I would consider adding tall storage cabinets (if you could use more storage) alongside a shorter length countertop/vanity. As for one or two sinks, I'm building our new main bath with just one, because I like to have counter space to spread out on. That's fine for the way we live - my husband and I never need to be in the bathroom getting ready at the same time. Nor did my kids ever have a problem sharing a single sink in our previous house. But some people would refuse to buy a house that had just one sink in the master bath. I don't think there's any one right answer for this.

It has a cool 80's Contemporary Memphis Movement Italian vibe to it, so it could be a great original detail that would be valuable to the home. Does the rest of the home have similar interesting features? 80's Contemporaries and becoming more appreciated and their values are rising if they have those original details. It won't be easy to either disguise, or change. Use is as is until you are ready to remodel the bathroom. It will need to be completely gutted and renovated to change that.

The structure is new. We had him build an addition on to our house and add this bathroom. I'm pretty sure I know why the surround is out of whack from the studs, in the contract we specified that he add backing to the tub structure to allow us to add grab bars in the future and to have something to screw the shower door into so it is not just attached to the fiberglass. I expected him to add a stud on each side where the shower door would attach so he could screw into that, and I expected he would glue/adhere plywood on to the back of the fiberglass tub surround before he installed it to attach the grab bars according to manufacturer instructions. He did neither of those, he screwed a piece of plywood between the studs and the tub to attach those, which is moving the tub flange away from the wall by that thickness. So now that that is all there, is there a way for this to be finished and not look like crap? I wanted to get opinions before I discussed it with the contractor because we have complained several times about the quality of his work and I want to know if this is fixable before I bring it up to him.

I’m not sure where your leak is coming from, I just wanted to tell our experience so you can gauge whether it might be a possibility in your case. One of our guest bathrooms had a leak that we originally assumed was from the shower. We hadn’t lived in the house for very long, and we hadn’t even used that shower yet when my sister came to visit. She stepped out of the shower and realized that water was squeezing up between the tiles when she stepped on them. Naturally, she informed us. My hubby had the entire bathroom completely gutted in half an hour! (It was a small bathroom with a Fiberglass shower, the tiles popped up like toast out of a toaster, and he’s just a beast... lol!) we see evidence of long term damage and provide my sister with another bathroom to use for the remainder of the visit. We didn’t start the bathroom remodel immediately, and when we did start it was slow going. We were very fortunate because we had barely started the remodel when we got another weather front move in with a whole lot of moisture... (It has been snowing a lot during her visit) and that’s when we realized the bathroom was leaking from another source! Hubby again ripped up the bathroom, and this time ripped out part of the wall that is on the exterior and that’s when we realized the leak was coming from outside. It took us a bit to figure out but we finally determined (with outside help) that it was because that wall was directly against an exterior chimney that had not been flashed properly. We left that bathroom unfinished for quite a while while we fixed the chimney problem, and waited for some more really good rain storms to make sure it was indeed dry before we finished our bathroom remodel. We were just fortunate that we have a lot of other bathrooms and this was just a guest bathroom. Anyways, I hope your issue isn’t something like that!
