Help! 70s rounded bath/tub needs makeover

What is this even called and how can I fix it without replacing the inserts? The inserts throughout the house are all acrylic, not the typical fiberglass but the 70s rounded corners just grates on me. The only thing I've found that might work is to add a wood casing around it that extends to the ceiling.

And yes, the yellow counter is hideous - already have plans for that, framing the mirror, removing the carpet and replacing it with tile.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm stumped and can't find this style anywhere on the internet.
