I’m in the same boat as you except my cabinets are a horrible antique white (yellowish beige). We just painted our walls alabaster white and love it. Of course my cabinets are still horrible so we’re going to paint them as well. I notice your cabinets are more of a true white... maybe off white, so I think alabaster would work well. It’s a popular color because it can go with warm colors or cool colors. I have warm accessory colors throughout my house and it works perfectly with them.

@jck910 is spot on. Your cabinets are natural maple, and not at all dark. Your problem is insufficient lighting. Get rid of the small boob light, and install some recessed lighting that will illuminate the cabinets, and also put in under cabinet LED strips. Painting cabinets is not a job for a contractor. It takes a professional cabinet painter, who will sand, prime, and use the proper finishing products to make the paint durable. Otherwise, your going to have a chipping mess, and money down the drain. Besides, painting those cabinets will only accentuate the outdated style of the doors. Take care of the lighting, and get the clutter off the counters. Otherwise, save your money until you can do a complete renovation.

Did you decide on a color? I have the same dilemma. Earthy kitchen - glazed white cabinets, travertine backsplash and bossy orange/brown granite. SW Latte walls. I’m craving something fresh! BUT, what I’ve learned is that your paint color should be 15-20 lrv below your cabinet color so they don’t end up looking MORE yellow or dingy. Unfortunately (for me at least), they will never look ”white”. Most glazed/cream cabinets are about 70-75 lrv (without knowing your exact color I’m guessing your lrv). Maritime white is 73 lrv which is probably the exact SAME as your cabinet color. Being about the same lrv, they are competing for the same color slot (a room can only handle one color in an lrv range) and their undertones are playing off each other - ie. your glazed yellowish cabinets making Maritime white look PINK in comparison. Color is all relative. This is why glazed cabinets are so limiting! We want a wall color in the 65-75 lrv range but can’t because of our glazed cabinets (that we wish were white and had a higher lrv). Look at colors in the 45-55 lrv range and hopefully you find a color to update your kitchen. Try SW Balanced Beige (a modern beige, not Tuscan golden at all) or SW Anew Gray (a warm greige definitely not ”gray”).
