Paint advice (walls) for a Tuscan kitchen w/ cream glazed cabinets

I have a 20 year old Tuscan kitchen in need of a refresh. I am so tired of the gold walls. I am NOT looking to do any sort of remodel right now, but I DO want to paint the walls. I am struggling to find a paint color to go with my cream glazed cabinets. I had a color consultant in and she recommended BM Maritime, but it seems to flash pink next to the cabinets. This space is north facing so not super bright.

When I look at my cabinets, I see yellow, although I am told that they have pink undertones (along with all of the travertine and the granite countertops) - so should I be considering pink-beiges?

I am looking to paint other areas of the house BM Natural Linen, put this color seems a bit gray in the kitchen.

You can see that I have a swatch of Maritime on the walls (in the back of the kitchen/left corner - close up in 2nd photo; the last pic shows current color).

Would appreciate your thoughts!

Take a look at Benjamin Moore's Sail Cloth:

It's light enough to fade into the background and it won't compete with your existing tile.

Did you decide on a color? I have the same dilemma. Earthy kitchen - glazed white cabinets, travertine backsplash and bossy orange/brown granite. SW Latte walls. I’m craving something fresh! BUT, what I’ve learned is that your paint color should be 15-20 lrv below your cabinet color so they don’t end up looking MORE yellow or dingy. Unfortunately (for me at least), they will never look ”white”. Most glazed/cream cabinets are about 70-75 lrv (without knowing your exact color I’m guessing your lrv). Maritime white is 73 lrv which is probably the exact SAME as your cabinet color. Being about the same lrv, they are competing for the same color slot (a room can only handle one color in an lrv range) and their undertones are playing off each other - ie. your glazed yellowish cabinets making Maritime white look PINK in comparison. Color is all relative. This is why glazed cabinets are so limiting! We want a wall color in the 65-75 lrv range but can’t because of our glazed cabinets (that we wish were white and had a higher lrv). Look at colors in the 45-55 lrv range and hopefully you find a color to update your kitchen. Try SW Balanced Beige (a modern beige, not Tuscan golden at all) or SW Anew Gray (a warm greige definitely not ”gray”).

Molly3573-I did not strip the cabinets -clean /fill/prime- The base board trim is just taller base trim from Home Depot- I used the pre-primed faux wood stuff and I used a newall (sp?) post cut down for the corners of the island and corner guards for the corner of the cabinets to dress them up. The bead board was just the pine bead board sheets (4x8) at Home Depot primed and painted with the same. I did not glaze them like the cabinets. All attached with a brad nailer- small trim nails would work and a hammer-but take longer- hope this helps -adding crown molding really gave the best bang for the buck as an upgrade- good luck with your kitchen!

Yes, here is just a pic snapped with my iPhone but it gives a feel. All the cabinetry save the lower cabinets of the L will be replaced, including the island (30" x 60") and the desk/hutch area opposite the L-area. I have thought about just going all medium or medium-dark cherry, very traditional. That's what I love, but that side of the house gets little natural light due to a porch and a lot of tall trees we aren't allowed to cut. But the more I keep looking at it, I begin to think just keeping it white and improving the tile splash might be best. New drawers and doors will go a long way toward making me happy. We'll be removing the 4" granite splash, too. I could do the desk area on the opposite wall in white, too, then get my color in the cherry island. Much as I love them, I can't make yellow or sage work. I love the blue, but the dh says NO. He likes either all white or all cherry. He doesn't care about the island. The paint is . . . just paint. It runs up the stairs into the upper foyer so we have some color restrictions there. But many colors would work. There isn't a lot of painted wall in the kitchen, and there will be even less after the remodel.

Thanks for the input everyone! We would be doing a similar shade in cabinet paint to the trim paint--both would be shade of white. The trim will be a SW Linen White to match the interior windows--this is not a standard color they carry, it is apparently a special formula they make for Pella (the interior of the windows were pre-painted at the Pella factory). There will be at least 2 places in the kitchen/breakfast/great room area where trim and cabinet would be right against each other, and probably a similar amount of spots in each bathroom. So, I'm thinking from your responses and, given my answers to your questions, I probably should try to match the trim and cabinets--if we do an off-white shade on the cabinet. ontariomom, it's interesting that you feel glaze is not as timeless--I've thought the same thing about the gray, beige, green, etc. painted cabinets that seem so popular right now. My husband and I both really love the weathered or aged look that glaze provides. We did it in our last remodel and were very happy. However, I've heard others in addition to you mention that they feel glaze is not classic or is "out." So, I'm going back and forth on doing what we love (glaze) with chance it may look dated relatively soon, trying a painted "color" cabinet such as light gray or beige, or doing a painted off-white cabinet with no glaze. tcufrog, I'm trying to work with the cabinetmaker to get sample boards, so hopefully that will help the decision!

HI there, thank you for the response. I am open to using just white dove. Also the product shown above is not the final draft as they are trying to get the colors right and have been sanding off to attempt different colors before painting a final draft. I realize not everyone is a fan of the glaze look or may be out of trend to some of extent. however, I do like it and if anyone has any suggestions to a brown glaze I would greatly appreciate it. I am doing this kitchen for my personal preference and not to follow a trend. Again, I am open to a single color but I would like to try a glaze look on the sample kitchen cabinet before making that decision. I think its nice the painting company is willing to try to match the colors and idea first before making a final draft and saying this is it. They have been coming back more for feedback. Thank you again.

Green and cream are beautiful together. But with your busy backsplash design and granite you can’t introduce another color to your kitchen that doesn’t already exist in the fixed elements, it won’t look cohesive/intentional and will look off. Plus green and your pink/orange backsplash and granite won’t jibe.

Maybe save money on paint now and wait until you can replace the travertine backsplash with a simple warm, off white subway tile? That would open up your paint color options immensely. If you like shades of green….BM Gray Mirage is a pretty green/gray and BM Grant Beige is pretty too, more like a tan with a subtle green undertone. Both are modern colors and greenish. Both have lrvs about 55 which would probably work well with your cabinets (assuming they’re about 75 lrv).

The color of that second picture that Tara posted reminds me of Sherwin Williams #SW 6478 "Watery" which is a little bluer green than sage which has a little gold. "Rainwashed" SW# 6211 might also be a lovely choice. I think the blueish greens are so fresh looking, if it works with the lighting and colors already in place.
