Should I paint my maple cabinets white?
Comments (33)We had a similarly dark kitchen when we moved into our current house. We had our maple cabinets painted when we moved in, which was five years ago. The painters sprayed the cabinets with a cabinet specific oil-based Ben Moore paint (can't remember the name) and five years later they look great, some marking on the pull-out garbage and a few other places, but that's about it. We also replaced the dark tile floor with white oak wide plank flooring, replaced the black appliances with stainless, the dark brown backsplash with subway tiles, and the red paint with off-white. It has helped a lot. However, it can't change the awkward layout. We are now in the process of replacing the cabinets and countertop and improving the layout (as much as we can since the space is awkward). As a stop-gap measure until we figured out what we wanted and had the budget to do so, painting the cabinets was great. It was also very affordable -- $600 bucks for 12x14 uppers and lowers and 8 feet of lowers on a peninsula....See MoreCan I do cream on my upper cabinets against white walls?
Comments (0)hi all! we are redoing our kitchen and I have my heart set on split color cabinets with cream on top and green on bottom. our walls are gypsum which is just slightly cool off-white and my husband is convinced cream just won't look good against them. I have picked the old white and country grey chalk paint from the pic. but will it work?? tia (please ignore the mess, we just moved in and it's all a disaster right now. Eventually countertops will be butcher block)...See MoreWhat shade of white should I paint my cabinets?
Comments (14)It's impossible to be sure just from a picture, but it looks to me like your cabinets, counter, etc. are well-made and were probably expensive when they were installed. Doing a quick patch job of redecorating by painting and putting peel and stick tiles over the backsplash is going to give you a lighter kitchen, but it will turn it into a cheap-looking kitchen in the process. Of course it's up to you what you can tolerate. If this were my kitchen, my choice would be to stick with a high-quality look that's out of style (especially since it's fairly neutral) until I could get a firm vision of what I wanted to do AND make sure I had the budget to do it right....See MoreShould I paint my kitchen cabinets white?
Comments (3)Hi! The home has a mixture of whites peaches and browns - all the cabinets are brown. There’s brown hardwood floor everywhere. The home itself doesn’t get much light so all the dark cabinets seem to make each room darker - that’s another push for me to paint the kitchen cabinets white. I appreciate your comments !...See MoreRL Relocation LLC
