Last year I had enormous squash bug probs
Comments (5)The squash bugs and the squash vine borer adults do overwinter in the brush near your garden, as do the beneficial insects that will help control them. The keys to controlling them are to build up your soil so it is good and healthys and grows strong healthy plants, and keeping both insects from getting to the plants. Floating row covers will help, but the disadvantage is they also keep the pollinators from getting to the blossoms. Planting an icycle radish right next to the squash, melon, or cucumber plant is reported to help keep them away. Putting an impervious barrier (roofing shingles, aluminum siding, plastic something) around the plants stem are all means of keeping the squash vine borer larva from getting to the plant. Sevin is a broad spectrum poison that is killing off the pollinators in large quantities and needs to be used with extreme care....See MoreI need HELP, before i have to refinance my house to care for my p
Comments (12)Ahhh...so you've used Baquacil for the last 6 years until now? Yes? You didnt' say that in your first post. And right now you're using chlorine tabs in your skimmer and shocking the pool with a chlorine or non-chlorine based product for sanitizer instead of the Baquacil peroxide "shock"? Just trying to get this all straight. Are you in the middle of a Baquacil to chlorine conversion? That is a specific process, and it takes some patience to do, during which you'll see different water colors and clarity as you convert. Of course, as you already probably know using an OTO test (which shows yellow in the presence of chlorine and tests up to 5 ppm of Total Chlorine only)...a brownish red color means that you have a much higher level of Total Chlorine (Free Chlorine plus Combined Chloramines)in the water. You'd need to use an FAS/DPD drop test to very accurately determine up to 50 ppm how much Free Chlorine, Combined Chlorine and Total Chlorine you have. I use this test on my own pool frequently and it's very easy to use. I still stand by my advice. There are detailed instructions and help on TFP for Baquacil users who need/want to convert to a less expensive product, as well as immediate help with your specific issues. Cheers and I hope you get your problem solved and get back to enjoying your pool!...See MoreHelp with Atrium: Plants to ID, and general advice
Comments (16)They seem to have money, why don't they replace the supplemental lighting with LEDs? Energy efficient and the plants would be happier. I just don't think you're going to get what you want with the current window set up you're having to work with. But I'm no professional, I could be totally wrong. Darker, less splotches (silver) aglaonemas would do well as would the darker sansevierias. Maybe some spathiphyllums. But they have so much cool stuff there already. So they are going to get rid of the citrus tree because it won't do well without more light, that's probably why it has scale. It's weak and should probably be ppulled out of its misery anyway....See MoreEnormous Fig Tree - Please help!
Comments (17)Looks like it has already been heavily pruned once before. Like a chainsaw to those main two main branches. If you look at the interior limbs they are very skinny and trying to reach sun. That tree needs heavy pruning and the center opened up to allow light inside. As mentioned, you won't get fruit the next year after the pruning. If the cuts are large in diameter you may have to put something to seal the cuts to stop diseases....See MoreL Shuran Meseroll
