New Island, new granite, need backsplash help!
Comments (17)OK...I just re-read what I wrote and I don't understand what I was trying to say :) Didn't have any coffee yet this morning... I think what I was trying to convey, is that in your space, you already have the contrast you're looking for with the black island and the black perimeter. You don't need to add a white BS to add *more* contrast. This is of course just my opinion looking at your pictures on a monitor. Your space is very warm and I see that you have some white in the eating area. I just think doing a whole BS white won't work. I agree with everyone's suggestion of putting white paper up to see how it would look. I did that when I was considering a dark countertop - I put black construction paper out and realized I didn't like the look. There are other tiles that are light but not cream. My google skills aren't the best today for some reason, but I have seen glass tiles that aren't super white. This one isn't the best example, but I found this color on glass tile oasis called "icicles" and from the picture it looks like a clear vs a white glass. I am having trouble embedding the picture. Maybe something like that would work. Here is a link that might be useful: Taos icicle glass tile....See MoreBacksplash help - busy granite, dark cabinets
Comments (4)Hi Ekazn Your kitchen sounds beautiful, can't wait to see what you are working with. What other colors and elements do you have in your kitchen? Lighting fixtures? Trim? Are you a geniune modern or more of a contemporary? Modern for me is a style from the 20th century with German scandinavian influences. Is this what you mean by modern? If you are not thinking form follows funtion and more of a contemporary sophisticated chic look that I can try to find some images of what you are looking for. Meanwhile, here are few ideas that come to mind with what you describe you are looing for. I am happy to help with more ideas just curious as to which direction to help you in. ~boxerpups Not subway but really pretty with an exotic granite...See MoreKitchen refresh: my New DIY matte/glossy backsplash and busy granite
Comments (17)Someone posted a reveal recently, confessing that she felt a bit unsure about her results, especially her BS. I know the feeling. I feel as if I've betrayed the prime directive when I see my BS paired with the counter. But my DH loves that granite so much, and I decided to get the BS I was going to see from the livingroom couch. And, yes amyfgib, my mare is the color of my lower cabinets and my gelding is white, brown and black. :) Thanks to all for your posts. It really is a kindness to take the time to tell a stranger they have a pretty BS....See MoreHelp with backsplash to lighten up busy granite with cream cabinets
Comments (11)the molding between wall and ceiling throws everything off, due to the super glossy white paint used for that row, all around ,and the very white ceiling. I like the paint color Cornforth white-shown above ..I would use that color with 20-30% less intensity and paint all walls, ceiling molding and ceiling with it. With no plans to redo the kitchen, let the nice cabinets have their presence, and reduce the conflict with the glaring ceiling molding with a subtle paint job. Then get some soft and textural mats on floor in the right locations for yourselves, and some sort of area rug in living/seating zones.Removal of stripe valances is probably a good move... but can wait if you want....I personally like something at windows..could just do a cellular shade in neutral at kitchen window and leave shades in dinette, remove valances. Neutral walls and ceiling ,and some rugs would do wonders and I think surprise you pleasantly.....See MoreSkippack Tile & Stone
