Pros...any idea what to do about this stained door?

Our upstairs area (one huge room plus a bathroom) has been turned into 2 bedrooms, 3 closets, and a TV room. So all the new doors need to match the other doors that are already there.

We bought the luan stainable doors with door jambs. We sanded and filled and sanded again. I used a wood conditioner because I knew the door's wood was different than the pine jambs and pine molding which was already in the upstairs. I knew we were going to have trouble matching the two different woods.

So, 3 doors turned out great, so far, after one coat of Old Masters Gel stain. One door has a problem on only 1 side. I have tried adding more stain in the spots that you see. I have given the door a second coat which made it darker than I wanted. I don't know what to do to get rid of the "stripes".

Does anyone have any idea of what I can do to get rid of the horizontal stripes? Thanks.
