Keep in mind, Dacor is now owned by Samsung and is undergoing some "swizzle". Prior experiences aren't necessarily going to apply, especially if you are considering the Modernist line as those are pretty much Samsung appliances. Heritage is what the old Dacor was, but most of the models have been discontinued. We had a 1999 Dacor Epicure and liked it a lot. In particular the configuration which was 10" burners left and right and 14" center with a fantastic griddle accessory. The downsides were an issue with the grate support (Dacor later changed the grate design) and burners/igniters that needed cleaning often (much more so than my current DCS-built 2006 Monogram) to work properly. We are likely going with Thermador for our next build. Not sure if there are any changes to their rangetops for 2018; their ovens are changing.

Realize that Dacor was bought by Samsung and with the exception of a Heritage model here or there, everything is different now and you can't really compare the old Epicure, Renaissance, and Discovery models to the current offerings. Modernist especially is Samsung's effort to tap the higher end appliance market that they haven't been in. Heritage is the closest to the old Dacor and might still be made in California. With Modernist, it's a whole new line and might be built in Samsung's factories. We spent quite a while with an independent appliance shop discussing the different brands and while a fan before, he advises holding off to see what happens to the brand.

So I have the Dacor modernist 36” inch cooktop in Graphite. my first disappointment was not the being able to use the brass burner caps. Second the black caps does not go well and its still a discolored brass under. totally just nice at showroom. The biggest disappointment… the surface discolored!!! 2x! i thought it was a defect and they switched but it happened again!!!!!! waiting to see how they will remedy this issue. maybe switch to stainless steel? did this happen to anyone else?

We renovated our kitchen and as part of this had installed the new Dacor Modernist Fridge and Freezer columns at a VERY hefty price tag. We were going to get a subzero and changed our minds when we saw these products - the styling, design and function looked so much better than Sub-Zero, despite the higher price tag. Well, fast forward about 8 months and we don't have a functioning fridge. It stopped cooling out of nowhere. We had to throw everything away. After FINALLY getting a repair person to the house, they told me that it was because the fridge had run out of gas (freon or whatever the coolant is that's used). When asked how that happened they said they didn't know, but that they couldn't repair it as they needed a part from Dacor. A WEEK later, they finally got the part and came back to repair the fridge. 4-5 hours later it still was not repaired and they said they needed another part. It's been almost two weeks since then and the part has still not arrived. We had a BlueStar range installed when redoing the kitchen and when we had a problem with that, they overnighted the part, so that they could fix it right away. This is not the case here - the customer service has been absolutely horrendous and Ferguson Appliances (where I bought the fridge from) has been at their wits end with this (I can't say enough about how wonderful Ferguson has been to deal with). This has been a nightmare. Now the repair place won't even schedule a repair date because they don't want to lose the time again in case the part doesn't show up again... DO NOT BUY THIS FRIDGE. I should have known better not to buy a Samsung (yes, Samsung bought Dacor a few years ago and these products are glorified Samsung units).
