Dacor Vs Thermador Vs Other Brands Packages
Comments (23)I've had no trouble with my Thermador 6 burner stove. It's 13 years old. We are now into the 2nd week of a major remodel of the kitchen knocking out the old mudroom laundry room to make a bigger kitchen. I will keep the Thermador. I am looking at an ASKO Dishwasher. I had nixed the Miele because I want to throw silverware into the DW. But if Gary is right, then I could reconsider the Miele. It looked like the ASKO has the silverware tray on top too but without the annoying slotted utensil tray. (The difference seems to be the difference between Rome's airport and Frankfort). I want an all refrigerator column so I am looking at the Thermador. I have a full freezer in our shed 10 feet away from the kitchen . (We are cattle ranchers). So all I need inside is an ice cube maker for my smoothies. But maybe a small freezer drawer for frozen fruit for said smoothies, a couple frozen pizzas, and of course the Ketel One Vodka. (No more kids at home). Could put the 18" Thermador freezer someplace though. Other columns are Lebherr, Viking. So advice on columns? And what about beverage centers? I looked at Marvel and Viking. Yikes. My biggest problem is a separate convection/microwave. Every 10 years, it seems, we are warned of the dangers of microwaves and cancer. Is a combo convection microwave good for making that extra dish for Thanksgiving and parties? Politically I'm trying to buy as much American and local as I can (local guy making our stainless steel sink), but the next best thing are European manufacturers who have union workers who make decent salaries, not slave labor. I have to decide by tomorrow and I'm still a tad confused....See MorePlease help! Wall ovens driving me crazy--Wolf, Miele, Dacor?
Comments (53)Take it from me what CR says about Thermador wall ovens is absolutely true. I have purchased two 30" C series Thermador ovens and am getting ready to replace the one that was existing in the home we purchased last year. Loved the way my Thermador's cooked, baked, and broiled but had to have them repaired. It seems there is insufficient insulation between the oven and the electric control panel and when you use the self clean, over time, it causes the control panel to fail. This is a minimum $1,000 repair. I live in Dallas and there is only ONE company in this area that will service Thermador ovens because Thermador service dept is so difficult to deal with. My regular service company which is efficient and costs are fair told me they stopped servicing Thermador ovens for that reason and three others I tried said the same thing. Both my Thermador ovens needed the control panel replaced within three years of purchasing and the one in our new home could not pass inspection and had to be repaired by the seller before we moved in - yep it was the panel and it cost them $1,200. They didn't cook and it was an older oven. The space we have for the wall oven is 27" and after looking and looking and doing research and reading here and other web sites with independent reviews by actual owners we have chosen the Miele Master Chef Classic Series which has the Novatronic controls which everyone seems to love. This choice was made in part because of the rotisserie feature which we do use quite a bit along with other features we liked and which were well reviewed. It was more expensive but we went with a straight Microwave which suites our needs and we chose the Electrolux Ei27MO45TS microwave which meets all our needs and was well reviewed. Went with the Miele warming drawer because of the match and the fact that it was the same price as most other warming drawers we were considering. We stack our ovens in an unusual way which we really like with the actual wall oven first, then the microwave, and then the warming drawer. It is logical to us because the heaviest items come out of the oven and having it at the top means no stooping and it's easier on the back. We usually only use the warming drawer when we entertain and to reheat leftovers which it does so much better than a microwave. Still trying to decide on which Fridge and Freezer columns to choose but that's another forum...See MoreWolf or Dacor Range? HEELLLP!
Comments (57)I don’t have the Modernist but have the Heritage Pro dual fuel. I’ve had a 30” range and have used it for 20 years with NO PROBLEMS. I love it. Am now remodeling my kitchen and am replacing it with the same range but in a 36” style. I liked the modernist style but have been so happy with the Heritage, that I didn’t feel it was worth with the extra $$ to go to the Midernist - and didn’t need/want all the computerized features. The latter, in my opinion, are just addl things to break, maintain and need updates. When looking for a range like this, the “biggies” IMO are 1) BTU range to go from simmer to high BTU output. 2) usable space in the cavity of the oven (note that Dacor ovens are typically larger than Wolf or Thermador). 3) continuous grates - which make a huge difference for cooking, moving pans around the surface of the range, and - frankly - safety (no tipping pots). Cleaning ease is also something to pay attention to. I’ve liked the Dacor for this as well and regularly use the Clean cycle. Hope this helps....See MoreYour Favorite Appliances-Remodel
Comments (27)I went with the Bosch line and I am in the final stages of our remodel. I picked up the induction cooktop today and the cabinets get installed starting tomorrow and the rest of appliances by the 9th of Feb. A few things I thought were interesting when I purchased.... Induction - we had gas, but after lurking here for 5+ years, I saw the passion for induction. We purchased a one burner hob and played. Not exactly something equal, but no that you will only get "better" performance from a larger appliance over the hob. I was deadset on the Bosch Benchmark with the bridges, etc. When I actually went to purchase the appliance, the sales person (who has been AWESOME), asked me how many times I actually have used my CI gridle/grill in the past 2 years. That would be maybe 6 times being generous. He asked me if I could turn on two burners (i.e. push the burner button and the setting I want, twice), of course I said yes, and he said let's use the money you would spend on the higher model to upgrade another appliance. Let's go with the lower version of the Induction Cooktop. Which is exactly what I did. We then decided to go with the Steam oven. It will be installed on the 9th, so I don't have any first hand experience, but can't wait to use it. I plan that it will replace our microwave. I have a Plan B, on where to stash a cheap MW, but honestly we use it very little (steam vege, heat water, or reheat food). The steam obviously will do 2 of the 3, and a simple cold/hot water filtration system at the sink replaces the heat water option. My expectation, is for our family of 3, that the steam oven will be my primary oven, but also installing a standard 30" convection oven. I also bought my warming drawer from Craigslist. It was a demo unit. I am putting a drawer front on it, so brand wasn't a big deal, but I saw that in the market there are some that have sides and some that don't have sides. I decided I wanted one without sides. With regards to the fridge, not sure I am much help. We elected to select a 36" fridge (SZ) and a nugget ice maker (Ice-O-Matic) and a hot/cold water dispenser that is filtered. This allows plenty of fridge space and keeps the beverage center away from my prep area. Our freezer space will be in the laundry room, and I think this will work great for our family. Good luck....See MoreMichelle misses Sophie
