Comments (20)Thank you all very kindly for my chocolate-covered birthday, you remembered! My day started out like any other, without patience nor moderation :) My chocolate trafficker, Jim, greeted me with a Mickey D's Mocha Frappe (if you're looking to raise your blood sugar to dangerous levels, this is the best way to go). Later, we went out to dinner. Aside from the company, the food was forgettable. Then, we went to see 'Dark Shadows.' Have you seen that yet? The movie had a bit of everything, horror, humor, and a heaving helping of Johnny Depp. Ooouch. I mean, how many actors can play dead and still look sexy doing it? Raise your hand...anyone? In other news, Thumper has a mustache. I discovered it while religiously scrubbing, what I thought, was chocolate milk on his upper lip. And it didn't come off, even after several protests from the poor boy. Anyway, I wanted to take a moment to THANK YOU kind friends, for your wonderful birthday wishes. Always, always, always appreciated! Sol...See MoreCar Parades during the pandemic
Comments (41)I guess I was raised in a different world from most so although I feel sorry for all the disappointing things that everyone is experiencing, most of it is way down the ladder in importance to me. All the touchy, mushy stuff that people are doing such as the parades, etc. are trivial and useless activities to me but I don't begrudge people from participating in them if it helps them or others cope better. It doesn't take any energy or sacrifice to "care". I have a lot more respect for people who are actually doing something that requires sacrifices of their time or resources such as helping in a food bank or donating to a charity that is helping really needy people in their community. Personally, this really hasn't affected us because we aren't involved socially that much. We don't belong to any social or religious groups and since we live in a rural area we don't even see neighbors very much. So this hasn't affected us as much as more gregarious people. My biggest personal sadness about this is that it looks like our plans for something really special for our golden anniversary coming later this year aren't going to happen. But I'm not losing sleep over it. I'll be grateful that both of us are still alive after all this. We were so poor when we got married that we couldn't afford (and most definitely not our parents) a wedding and most of our lives have been spent working and making do without much traveling or fancy celebrations so this we can survive just as well. It's a disappointment but we will get over it. So, I guess I can see that parades and all these mushy FB videos, etc. might be helping young children and even teens and adults with childish tendencies get through the day - I think that beyond that there is more need of real help and sacrifice right now - IMO....See MoreLife and Death amid a Pandemic
Comments (97)Thank you, Pink for reminding me that the most heartwarming, special service I have been to was also a delayed service. It was truly a celebration of life. I have an amazing support network-- the kindness and love I have received here, from family and friends and (perhaps surprising to some) on FB has been so very comforting. My dad was very well known in the community and also in a large sports organization. He has touched so many and it helps to hear from them all. I will share more about my dad at some point. Honestly, I am spinning a bit these days. I am still working in the early mornings and then spending the rest of the day helping to make arrangements, supporting my mom and preparing her for a move. It's a lot-- but I have a stream of so many great memories and as I look to my family, I see pieces of dad in all of us. That helps too. Love to you all-- thank you so very much....See MoreJilly
