I looked up more on Roundup Plus - I didn't realixe there are so many different formulations. Maybe what jBaker used was "Roundup Concentrate Plus" which adds 0.73% diquat dibromide to cause faster burn down or the weed. Based on the following, I personally wouldn't worry about it. It bonds so strongly to soil that plants don't absorb it and it will not wash away or breakdown. Those passionate about organics will read this differently, but you wouldn't have bought the product if you were passionately organic. I expect those who view all non-organics as poisons would want to scrape off the top inch of soil that might be contaminated and throw it away, as it will never go away otherwise. Here's some info on diquat dibromide: ENVIRONMENTAL FATE Breakdown of Chemical in Soil and Groundwater When diquat dibromide comes in contact with soil, it becomes strongly adsorbed to clay particles or organic matter in the soil for long periods of time (Koc - 100,000 g/ml). The strong chemical bonds formed by diquat adsorption to soil particles make the herbicide biologically and chemically inactive. That is, in certain soils it is unlikely to be: carried away, or leached, by water seeping through the soil; taken up by plants; broken down by microbes in the soil in a process called microbial degradation; or broken down by sunlight (photochemical degradation). Traces, or residues, of diquat have been found to persist in soil for many years with very little degradation (8, 21, 32, 36, 40). Soil capacity for adsorption of diquat is so high in comparison to the rates at which it is applied that there is little possibility that leaching or groundwater contamination will occur. Field and laboratory tests show that diquat usually remains in the top inch of soil for long periods of time after it is applied (31, 32). However, there is also evidence that diquat has the ability to eventually use up, or saturate, all the available adsorption sites on soil clay particles. Groundwater quality can be affected if soil adsorption sites become totally saturated because water moving down through the soil can carry any non adsorbed herbicide into the groundwater. More research is needed for a better understanding of the potential effects on groundwater of long- term, repeated use of diquat. Don't panic. She's own root and even if you have to prune most of that cane off (and you do have to prune off any dead wood) she should put up some new ones this spring. It's still way too cold for that to happen though. I don't know where you are but if you aren't past your last frost date you could put some leaves around it. It's a little late but it couldn't hurt. As I said, you do have to prune off any dead wood. Starting at the top clip off a small piece and look at the center. If it's whitish/cream green it's alive. If it's dark brown or tan it isn't. Keep clipping down in small pieces until you find that whiter center. From there down it should be live cane. (I'm going to be doing a LOT of that myself this year.) It's way too early to do any pruning here but where you are it may be time. Usually a good rule of thumb is to start your pruning when the forsythias begin to bloom in your area. Being own root I'd say no, she isn't dead. But she will take time to sprout new canes from the roots so be patient. It may not happen until it gets MUCH warmer. I've had roses I was sure were dead sprout new growth as late a mid-June. They just needed more warmth for longer to wake up. You can give her some organic fertilizer but do so sparingly. You don't want to kill her with kindness. I wouldn't suggest any chemical fertilizers until you see strong new growth on her. You don't want to burn the roots. As for the neighborhood kids, maybe you should put a cage around her some how so they can't get to her. I have a bed on the edge of the street too and fencing it did help keep the kids (and dogs) out of it.

Yes, the banana should come back and will likely throw more than one pup. You can severely damage bananas, even cut them right off and they will grow back. The only time you lose is if you rot the corm . I would get a new yard person too. You might think that's harsh but unless they had free reign to care for the entire yard, they shouldn't be touching what they don't know. That or estimate a value for the plant they cut down and take that out of their fee.

Isn't that something? You know, I've still got some putting up scapes and it got down to 30 last night....probably need to cut the scapes, but dang I hate to do that!! I checked them today, and they don't seem to be hurt at all. It's going back into the 70's here by the weekend. Guess I'll just let them be. Hey, maybe I'll have dl's blooming for Christmas!!
