Preferred paint for fruit tree sunburn protection?
Comments (3)Californian: Use the paint specified for interior use, whether it is vinyl, acrylic, or a combination of the two. I believe, but am not certain, that the interior stuff is vinyl latex. Dilute it by half with water before applying. Exterior grade paint is heavier, and contains chemicals to prevent mildew which are not good for trees. I don't know how you would orient a graft union in any direction, since it is 360 degrees around the scion. Don Yellman, Great Falls, VA...See MoreAvocado Leaf Sunburn?
Comments (7)im a noob, but i doubt its the mineral oil. many people have recommended mineral and vegetable oil and claim it is safe with no problems. my avos were going south before i added anything. i tried vegetable oil for any possible pests, but it didnt help, but didnt hurt it any worse either. i guess perhaps if there was a tremendous amount of oil residue, it could be magnifying sun rays. but that sounds far fetched to me personally, but who knows....See MoreAre these spots on palm tree sunburn?
Comments (3)just like your other post.. when is the last time you changed your media ... media is all about proper water management.. and it wears out.. and when it does.. water does not flow thru it properly ... and you end up with severely stressed plants.. and that type of plant .. ends up with all kinds of problems.. but solving the problem involves solving the underlying problem.. nto the surface one ... sooo ..... another huge plant.. in a small pot with old media ... and the problem is.. you need new pots.. new media .. and you will have a hard time making the plants stand up when repotted ... IF IT WERE ME ... i would get rid of them.. scrub clean the pots.. let them stand in sun for a week or so ... and go buy fresh.. vigorous new smaller plants.. and start over ... that would be the easy way ... for someone who doesnt want to fool around ... but if you want to play emergency room nurse.. and spend the time playing and learning.. go for it.. you will have fun .. and you will learn ... [and then maybe give up and buy new.. lol] good luck ken...See MoreSunburned rubber tree leaves
Comments (2)Try putting them outside early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun's light is at its weakest. Or just start off placing it in the shadiest place you can find. I had a similar instance happen to a couple of my plants. I moved them outdoors, but into indirect sunlight. This was still too drastic for them, or at least their newest leaves. So I moved them back onto my shaded front porch that's enclosed and faces north. This has stopped the problem from escalating and further, and they still get enough exposure to gradually harden them off over time, but at a much slower pace....See MoreDave in NoVA • N.
