Help decorating my living room?

Hi there! This is our first home and I'm a total noob at interior design but I think I have a space with lots of potential here in my living room. it's an interestingly designed room (geometrically speaking) with very large windows and lots of cool lighting options. We have no curtains, rugs, tables or anything yet really except for things that came from our apartment. The only things that have to stay in here are the TV and couches. I have light blueish/grey walls with white trim, and dark cherry wood I think. I'm lost at the types of tables, colors of rugs and curtains that would complement this room. If I had a style I think it would be transitional. I like mixing things up as long as it looks good and coherent. I need some inspiration. Pictures from all angles included (excuse the cats.) 😹

Thank you! I was thinking about a medallion rug but was unsure about the color! When it comes to the main rug color should I stick to blue? Also I was looking at a modern metal and glass coffee table. Does it matter what color metal I use?

J. C. Penney carries a lot of curtain panels & drapes for all kinds of rods. Sheers, semi-sheers, lined, etc. They can be ordered on-line; easily returned and even easier to return if you have a store near you. They carry Royal Velvet brand & I've had good luck with the quality. I'd hesitate to order a light fixture on line mostly because it would be difficult to return (ship back) if you didn't like it. I'd want to see it first. I like celerygirls furniture arrangement - the 2 chairs on the wall with the windows. The chairs seem too 'lightweight' to be placed where you had them. You can see through them into the room. They need something substantial behind them for support - the wall. You have a great entryway to work with too!

I understand wanting to make what you have work, especially since you'll be adjusting financially for a time with your new house. I would not recommend purchasing furniture on credit. Instead, save for the pieces you want. Reserve debt increases for items that will protect or increase the value of your home if absolutely necessary. It's better to plan and save for those items as well. But, I digress. . . I think there are some things you can do to bridge the warm and cool tones in your room. Bringing some of the cooler tones onto the the sofa and bringing some warmer tones onto the wall are some things to consider. The mock-up below attempts to illustrate the idea I would recommend removing the console to the left of the window. It appears to crowding the entry. Maybe think about a couple of prints that have both warm and cool tones for above the long sofa wall. And perhaps a warm wooden shelf on the short wall. A distressed mirror above it along with a couple of well chosen photos or other items could make a nice vignette. Rather than the current side table, consider a solid, drum or pedestal. Suspending a pendent light in the right position above it would balance out the short sofa wall. I hope this has been somewhat helpful. Congratulations on your new house!

Your furniture looks really dated, leaves very little space, is smushed together and is very brown, it's very hard to read a personal style there. I agree the curtains aren't very nice, the valance thing appears completely unrelated to anything (colour and style) and does not seem to have any function (it looks like you have three layers of curtain which seems like overkill, but maybe there are privacy or light issues?). The TV cabinet looks to be a completely different and more ornate style than anything else in the room plus it's massive and dark. For my taste I'd want to get rid of the beige carpet (which I realize is something you wouldn't likely do) and paint the walls a colour that is not beige or brown, also I'd get rid of the Tv cabinet as it is practically eating up the whole room scale wise and dwarves the fireplace. Some kind of picture or pictures, some kind of something that has some personality, you must know the sorts of things you enjoy looking at? For me, this room would have plants, books, reading lamps etc. as well.

We agree with @Diana Bier on the suggestion to add curtains which would definitely add to a formal living room setting. @user01 l We've made you a layout (approx dimensions) for a formal living room. Is there a den in this home or only this living area? If you have another room for TV, this man cave style furniture would do better there. If this is to be the only TV room, will the recliners clear the wall if they're any closer to them? If you decide to swap these for new seating I would put a 3-seat sofa on the long wall opposite the windows. Add a pair of chairs and coffee table in a group with it. Put the TV on the wall right of the FP on a credenza 25% wider than the TV. On the wall where your lamp is place a tall piece of casegoods to visually counterbalance the FP. Swivel chairs will easily turn to watch TV or converse with sofa sitters. A large rug that anchors all the seating will tie things together. you can add a bench in the window recess.

Lol @ man cave style furniture 🤣 You can clearly see I preferred comfort over style when I got these 5 years ago. 😳 But yes, this is the only TV room and we will have to deal with the furniture for now. I love these ideas! I just visualized all this as I read it. I can definitely push the recliners back further.
