What a ridiculous design. To open the oven door you press a button located above the door, thereby placing your hand in the 350-500 degree blast of hot air from the oven. How do you close the door. I guess you press the button again -- more hot oven air -- or maybe you close the door manually. Of course having an unnecessary, motorized door is just one more thing to break.

I totally get having a preference for a handle but I don’t see this as a safety issue. When an oven is opened heat/steam comes out whether you press a button or pull on a handle. I believe there is a slight delay after pressing the button and the door does not fly open. I also think there is a second button that is at the top of the door (not front of the door or you would have to reach to the underside of an opened door, button is hidden when door is closed) so that to close it you just reach to the now 90 degree opened door and tap on it. No idea of maintenance issues for failed buttons but these have been in operation in Europe for years now. Miele is a pretty solid company, fair to say they gave this some thought. I think it is mostly a style question, as well as a question about liking the convenience of the old tried and true handle operation that all are of course used to.

A handle is on the door, not above it so your hand wouldn't be exposed to the heat. Plus how do you control how much the door opens? What if you just want to take a peek to see how cooked something is? It's motorized for the sake of motorization, not to cook food better.

Clearly the motorization of the door is not to improve the cooking process, it is a design choice. I would point out that the button is not in the center of the oven, it is on the right hand side so the whole issue of burning yourself is really not an issue (again, this has been in use in Europe for years now). I think the question is how, if at all, it might hinder the cooking process. Clearly, if someone likes the ability to "peak" into the oven by tilting the door slightly open via a handle vs fully opening and if losing that ability is material to that person then this would not be for them.

The point of the motorization (as opposed to it being for motorization sake) is for aesthetics/design. In a traditional separate kitchen this appliance would be out of place. Having said that, the kitchen is increasingly part of an open layout in today’s homes, it is part of an entertaining space (in some ways the center of such a space) and no longer a purely functional area. Otherwise there would not be a mkt for counter-depth integrated refrigerators, all would be about purely function and utility.

Would love feedback from anyone who has actually used this version, though assume I won't find any as it is not in the US yet. If you go to YouTube you can see them showing how it works but of course that is w/ a Miele pro handling it. Personally, while my family likes to cook a lot I have to say, so long as it works, if the only materials difference is pressing a button to open/close a door vs using a handle it is not a big deal to me. I think the appliance itself looks pretty great in an open layout. Best I have seen outside of Gaggenau.

You'd better remember to stand to the side of the oven when you press the button. Otherwise it opens on you.

Yes, Good safety tip. I really hope that people are able to figure out that doors open outward and I also hope that everyone in the world w/ a handle on their oven is super careful not to open it up into their face each time they need to get inside.

Of course, it's obvious how the door opens when you're pulling on a visible handle whereas it isn't obvious when you just press a button and wait for a motor to do it.

But it's so pretty. And it solves the problem of matching handles on appliances.
