I prefer the disposables because I do not like washing the masks after every outing. Now the plastic face shield I have been thinking of purchasing several. When gardening I have been known to put my head into plants or pull weeds and have a shower of dirt fly toward my face.

Actually I could have used one today when I was trying to see if there was a problem with some racoon kits that were crying out and were some where in the yews. I had heard them last night and thought it was older ones fighting. Today had about three inches of rain. I wanted to see if they were in danger because water was rushing through those bushes. Couple of hours later one was still crying. When I came out I saw Mama come and pick it up. I was about to call a rehabber as I thought they had been abandoned.

At Kroger today there was a LOT of various types of hand sanitizer. Some from distilleries and smell much like booze. But I got a gel type that is really nice.

If a bee can get in - can't a bug, even a vile-nt virus?

Moni, those are fun looking masks.

I have ten masks. I've acquired so many from friends who sew. I don't go out often, and when I do, when I get home I walk in the front door, then immediately toss it in the washer. Having ten, and with not going out very often, I don't even really go through all ten in a week.

I think things may be starting to catch up. Our local IGA stores had tons on hand sanitizer in several different sizes. They also had TP and bleach. It looked odd to see those shelves stocked!

Moni - love your fabrics and it looks like you managed to find elastic too.

I don't usually bother washing them when I return home. I've made enough that I leave them in the car since I only go out once a week. The others I just hang up and rotate them.

PLEASE do not become attached to yet another disposable item to fill up our landfills with!! Sanitizer should be used MINIMALLY!! Washing with soap and water soooo much healthier for ALL. Super bugs is not a thing we want to encourage right now!!! Washing a mask is too much trouble!?!?! Did I really read that!!?? uggggg

I spray my mask with Lysol disinfectant spray after each use( which has only been 4 times so far) and have washed it only once.

I have made myself multiple masks and just toss them in a bin in the garage as I return from an errand. When I have several to wash, I toss them in with my towels which I wash on hot. You can also iron them on a hot steam setting to sanitize if you feel they are not dirty enough to wash. I use tinted sunscreen so my masks are one time use before I wash them as some of that sunscreen transfers to the mask.

Raven, does that sanitizer say it works on GERMS and VIRUSES? I didn't look that close at SAMS... but I have bought a sanitizer that was only good for germs.

Please, folks, pay better attention than I did.

Yes, I am environmentally conscious... which is why I sew masks.

Up to now, they have all been given away for free. I do take donations for the shipping... and mostly get that in stamps.

Now, I have to go out, and hang my laundry... since I don't own a dryer by choice, and the washing machine has stopped.

PS, all masks have had a different color or design fabric, so folks can know, which side was on the face side... if they choose to re-use before washing.

I haven't really seen any anyplace. I have a few of the disposable, have given a couple away and find times when they may be a better choice than the cloth - many of which seem to have wider elastic. DH got his first haircut in three months (he's typically going every 5 weeks) this morning. He wore a disposable mask. His favorite masks to date have adjustable slides behind the ears and I knew those would be in his new stylists way. He went to our neighbor at her salon for the first time, his usual hasn't reopened yet or returned his messages. He loved the haircut.

Friend who manages a large truck (commercial) sales and parts business got some masks in last month. My BIL called and asked if I'd picked any up from there, he wanted some for 'handouts' at their summer home. When the invoice came indicating what they were to be priced, I changed my mind and didn't buy them. $100 for box of 50 masks. Didn't want them that badly. They had the company name on them, and I was OK with the advertising but not paying that much to show a name and logo ;0)

I've got a good supply of hand sanitizer. Yes, we do wash when a sink and soap are available. But I have the sanitizer in both vehicles, the garage, the kitchen, guest bath. And enough to share if anyone wants to refill a container.

If I go out and am at the bank, post office, grocery store, I'm using the hand sanitizer when exiting the bank, post office and grocery store.

Just wanted to add Sam's had a HUGE supply of TP and PT's. Maybe by now people are all well supplied!

I'd love to buy a box for my dh. He used those before the virus for allergies when he's mowing grass. I bought him a small box right before all this hit the fan.

I've bought both of us cloth masks from different local sewers. I like mine but he says his are too small and pull on his ears. I need to find someone who can make a bigger mask or at least longer elastic bands.
I have a little Purell dispenser attached to my purse. Whenever I get back in the car from a store I use some. Other than that, I usually wash with soap and water as soon as I'm home or back in my office.

I use my hand sanitizer as soon as I leave the buildings... before I even touch my car... cause I consider my car my safe zone.

I'm happy if someone wears a disposable or reusable mask. They care, and that's enough for me!

According to the CDC, alcohol-based hand rubs are an effective way to remove bacteria. It recommends using one with greater than 60 percent ethanol or 70 percent isopropanol.

Stacy I am sorry, forgot to answer you. I saw a whole bunch of mask youtube videos... and tried several. Mine are 7X9 inch pieces of fabric, 2 pieces with a smaller piece of interfacing in the middle of it. I found this works way better than 3 layers, for when the folds are sewn in. the sides with the folds are 3 inches when I get done. I just realized, I can send you a message through your page... so I will go there now.
