Does this built in look odd to you?
Comments (28)I think I'm agreement with Sombreuil_Mongrel. Not only because she's a master carpenter, but also, because I think it makes a whole lot of sense. To take it a bit further, how about combining Sombreuil_Mongrel's "lift up" suggestion with Plllog's suggestion of using a cab with a flip up door . . . at the bottom. Also, I have to agree with aliris19 re your "beautiful stuff." I have yet to see a single thing you have shared with us that didn't leave me sighing in delight. That house you're rebuilding was fantastic to begin with; the remodel, to your own vision, is a true work of art!...See MoreDoes this seem like an odd request??
Comments (17)Are you sure the seller wants "you" personally to remove the wallpaper, or it is just a clause that they want the wall paper to be removed? If I am the buyer, I want it done by a professional. I think the request from the seller wanting to remove the wallpaper is normal, especially the buyer does not want his pregnant wife to do that. The request that is odd is the one from your husband, giving the fact that you are babysitting 6 kids during the day, taking care of your 6 kids in the night, and you are preparing for the moving. Even if you are not pregnant, without removing the wallpaper, it is already too much for anyone to handle. Is your husband kidding? It is even odder that you are wondering if you should consider this undertaking. Your option is obvious - take the $1000.00 loss and move on. if you cannot afford that, your husband needs to do the work, especially, he is the one who negotiated the deal....See MoreDoes this cabinet molding look odd??
Comments (10)Thanks everyone! I'm glad that it's not just me that thought the molding looked strange. I was beginning to think that maybe my vision is impaired after looking at so much stuff and making so many decisions over the course of this seemingly never-ending project! :) Christine - thanks! The progress is very slow, but I suppose anything is better than nothing! Not sure if you saw the ongoing drama with the floors, but I posted an update with a photo also - the link to the post is below. Mom2reese - thanks so much for those photos. I see what you mean and agree that the cabinet maker could probably have done a better job. We wanted a very simple crown and didn't want it to extend to the ceiling, although I don't even know why now! I initially wanted a much more modern look, but scaled it back a bit due to the age of the house and the style of the other rooms. I'm aiming for something between modern and traditional now, but not sure I'm hitting the mark! Anyway, after looking at the cabinets over and over, I think the cabinet maker may be able to just detach the molding from the piece he has it sitting on and attach it directly to the top edge of the cabinets (for some reason he put another piece on the bottom which raises it up more, but I think the odd gap at the corner will at least be eliminated by doing that (if that makes any sense!). Comments (22)Hi zoenip. Yep...that's me. I don't know if I would call myself a guru...probably more like obsessed but still learning. I will look at Brown Antique. the black fossil won't work. The slab is too short and the material cost alone on it is nearly $100 per foot. I just found that out today. So no black fossil for me. Probably for the best....I was concerned about the pattern competing with the kitchen granite. So I'll be looking at solid black, brown, and also cream colored marble. Also looking at Either maple or walnut. The GOOD news is that they will be cutting my delicatus tomorrow!! YAY!! They are seaming it at the two sinks and the cooktop so they can get it here unbroken. this stuff is bad about breaking and having the seams at the cut-outs will help it get here unbroken. So maybe by mid-next week, I'll have granite! I am sure once it is in, it will be easier to decide on what to use on the bar overhang. Cindy...See MoreMatthew Markey
