I already have run out of space. But there is no way I would move. After all these years working by butt off in the garden to finially get it too look like this. The idea of starting over is just impossible. I could never do it all again. And I love everything that is here, I could never leave it. I love dahlias when I buy them already growing in pots. When I try to do them myself I make a mess of it. This year I do have some dahlias tubers and have finially learned how I should be growing dahlias. I have been doing it wrong so no wonder I had no great success. But today I thought why all the bother. I don't start them under lights and started now, they might flower by July. Buy the darn pots and I have flowers now and all summer until frost. I think thats what I will do from now on. The Clematis are just sooooo gorgeous. I can't even begin to describe the color of the light purple. Of course, the plants locally were almost twice the price of the mail order ones. Thanks for the prunning group tip, I haven't gotten a chance to look that up yet. I have another obelisk in my basement for years that I had never ever put together yet. Looks like I am going to be needing it.

I have found some honeysuckles to be stronger twiners than others. If that one is a good twiner, it will probably have no problem twining around the pole and climbing on its own. If it is a weak twiner, it may need tying in. Do the stems look straight or are they turning/sort of corkscrewing as they grow taller? If they are turning, all you probably need to do is to let them get to 3-4' and then just wrap them around the pole - make sure you wrap them in the direction they want to twine in!

I emailed mike darcy,a gardening show radio host whos show is on kxl101 out of Portland Oregon asking him this very thing. he thought the pvc I was going to use to grow hops to shade the south side of my newly painted house,for "protection" would betoo smooth. since I bought some for another purpose im going to go with a roll of bungee cord, cut and attached to those screw in anchor things or big plastic tent spikes. I may also try just wire or rope and see how it goes. I will secure some eye lag screws to underside of roof overhang. im glad I came here. i'll put it in my faves and post pics as the 2015 season progesses. keith in Vancouver washington

I have a very similar corner bed. The backdrop is my most favorite vine, evergreen wisteria. Here in Dallas, it is rarely evergreen (although it is this year!) But where you are it definitely will be. You'll have to make sure your fence is sturdy because it will eventually get big. Then attach lattice to the fence. (Easy, cheap, and pretty.) and plant it in the ground in the back of the corner. Don't plant full sun bulbs right under it (take it from me) because eventually that will be shade. Full sun annuals are find for the first couple of years though. But out toward the front edge can be full sun. I have to relearn how to insert pictures because I have some!
