Help choosing lighting for open plan family room/dining room

My husband and I recently bought a house and are struggling with choosing our light fixtures. Our home has an open floor plan, so the family room/dining room are actually one great room off the kitchen. The ceiling height is 10ft in the dining room and then the family room has a trey ceiling at 10.8 ft. We’re struggling as we want the lighting to flow and not be too disparate, but not sure on matching them too much either. We were thinking of 2 wheels, like the Geoffrey chandelier, same for both rooms. We love modern farmhouse and just bought a new dining room set and sectional, both in that style. We also like the Killian chandelier from Ethan Allen for the dining room. I guess our question is, do we do the same chandelier, like the wheel, in both rooms, even though the ceilings are different heights? Two different fixtures & if so, how do we coordinate? Sorry this is so wordy! Thank you to anyone who reads!!!

Having the home's only fireplace in a dining room would be strange. If it were a secondary space, it would still be strange, because of the amount of space that it would take up. As in, the room isn't large enough or created around having a fireplace in it. The room itself would have to be larger to accommodate the fireplace and the dining functions. And that was only if it were a secondary fireplace. As a primary, it belongs elsewhere. I'd personally turn the way too far away dining room into the "away" cozy spot with a fireplace and a sofa, and make the odd small breakfast area into a space that could be versatile and serve as both casual and formal eating space. It would be more efficient, and you NEED a spot that isn't open to all of the noise and activity. Right now, everyone has to go to their bedrooms for that. And the breakfast area isn't the most efficient use of space as it stands.

The plan separates each living space with access from a central hall. It would work well for an office building but not so much for a house especially f you plan to entertain. I find that trying to make a good plan out of a bad one is usually a waste of time and effort. Its like renovating a house that hasn't been built yet. Decide what you think an entertainment space should look like and develop the house around it. But I would not design a house around an occasional use. The interrelationships of family members should be the dominant theme of a house. And I would never put a level change in a living space unless there was an alternate wheelchair route. If you plan to entertain, the front door should have wheelchair access too. An accessible half bath would be good too.

Okay - did the corrections and think I have a close approximation of your space. Each block represents 1 foot. The gray area is the space needed around the island for walking with people seated - should be clear of furniture. Can you take a picture of the full wall where the fireplace and tv nook are - not sure I got their placements right. Do you plan on using the tv nook for the TV? How did you envision the living/seating areas when you designed the kitchen? How many people need to be seated - do you need a dining space and how many people need to sit at the dining table or are you just using the island for meals?

Sorry, not sure why the picture didn't post. Here it is again. RL, I like the round pendant and the pleated one in your first set of suggestions. Is that a Nelson bubble pendant? Also, I should have given a few dimensional details. The table is 36" wide at the ends, 40" wide in the center. Ceiling height is 92".

I want to tell you 1 key tip for lighting, don't put the cart before the horse. You MUST put your furniture in the space, right now you can't "see" the space, and that is what is making it so hard. once things are in the space, and the rooms shrink, you will have a much better idea of not only what will look pretty but will actually function for you. also, things like the size of the table are very important when scaling. Lastly matching or not, doesn't matter, farmhouse is not about matchy matchy, its eclectic. if you stay within that wheelhouse they will coordinate by default.
