No never saw their door closed at night. Only when they were changing clothes was it closed.

Door cracked when a new baby in the house, then we always closed it. Our kids were loud when need be. And if they didn't wake us up, one of the other ones would. We had 4.

I honestly don't remember whether my parent's bedroom door was closed or open at night. I always closed my bedroom door, so maybe that's why I don't remember.

We lived in a clapboard house that was built after WWII. The house had no central a/c, but my parents had a window unit in their bedroom. Yes the door was closed.

We always slept with the door closed. Always closed the kids door as well. As the kids got older, there was lock on our door, when needed lol. Otherwise unlocked. My parents door was never completely closed, always ajar. Our kids slept in their rooms most of the time.

As a kid, I recall all bedroom doors were closed. When our kids were growing up, it was each individual's choice. We usually had our's closed (except with babies in the house) and the rule was if closed, knock first and wait for a response before entering.

I don't remember if my parent's door was closed or not. I do remember having nightmares when I was young and sneaking into their room and climbing in between them, trying not to wake them up. lol. I don't think I ever didn't wake them.

I can’t remember, so I guess it never registered one way or the other. I never felt their door was closed to me though.

Also, I never slept in a room on my own as I had an elder sister sharing, so maybe that helped.

I lived in a small4room house when a child. My parents had one bedroom and my sister and I shared the other bedroom. Our bedroom door was closed only when one of us was changing clothes, or we wanted to shut away noise from the rest of the house. My parents did close their door sometimes, but in summer, both doors were left open for air flow. On cold winter nights, both bedroom doors were left open to the living room to gain some heat from the living room stove.

Moving forward after I was married, we left our bedroom door open when Our children were very young so that we were awakened if one of them stirred and needed attention. As the children grew older, all bedroom doors were closed at night, except when left open for air flow on hot nights.

Always closed, and if you knocked, it better involve bleeding. I think kids' doors were closed, too.

Fire safety in a home says all bedroom doors are to be closed while sleeping so ours always were/are. I think privacy in the principal bedroom is often a consideration also. Nightmares was not a part of my life as a child or in the lives of my children so not sure if that would change standard operational procedures...ya gotta do what works!!

My parent's bedroom did not have a door. My sister and I slept downstairs in what now would be called sort of a family room. It was a 4 room house.

When I was little our house was small with only one large heat vent in the floor... must've been 30" square...in the living room, so if the doors were shut, you didn't get any heat....I remember spending a lot of time as a kid sitting on the heat vent when I came in from the cold.

Always closed. We did not have AC in the house when I was little, my parents had a box fan in the window and still kept their door closed. We sweltered.

In the evening, my parents' door was usually closed and we were taught to knock before entering. My door was open because the family cat liked to sleep on my bed. As a teenager, I volunteered at a museum that had a one room 1800s log house on the grounds. It had belonged to a large family, and while I understood how they could have one child, I wondered how they ever had the privacy to make more.

Doors open, for air flow and so my mom could hear me call if I needed her. Sometimes she'd send Dad, but when it came to comfort I needed Mom. LOL. I remember being scared of bears, dinosaur monsters, and those blobs that floated out of the closet at night. (I think the blobs were aural migraines, where you see weird images but don't get a headache. Scary for a kid, interesting as an adult.)

DH and I kept doors open for airflow. Except when we have/are company, then it's door closed for privacy. Our DD decided when she was a teen that she wanted her door shut, which was fine with us.

My bedroom door is open at night as was my parents. Like me, my kids slept with their doors open when young but closed when they became teenagers.

My parents kept their doors closed. We would like to, but the cat has other ideas for occupancy of the house. She wants full access. If you closes the door with her in the room, she wants out. If she is out, she wants right back in. We like to sleep so we leave the door cracked and it is open when we get up. I think if we had lever door knobs, she would be one of those cats who would open the door by herself.

We keep our door slightly ajar. If we close it the cats go nuts. The doors to our kids room were always closed, the cats didn't care.

How funny! Opposite of blfenton...I keep it closed to keep the cats out. I'm allergic to cats, so they're not allowed where I sleep. Works well enough to get by and still have cats.

We had to have a very good reason to go into our parents room so it wouldn't matter if the door was open or not. We lived in a lot of houses so it would depend I think. I remember in New York they used what must have been intended as a dining room and it had no doors but we were all very small. I would have been four there. My mother was up and about a lot during the night with I think insomnia, so she would check on us but not out of concern, just for something to do. Our doors were open when we were young.

My wife grew up with closed bedroom doors. I grew up with open bedroom doors.

Now we sleep with bedroom door closed for fire safety.

I can't remember how we did it growing up. But as an adult and parent, we closed all doors. Fire takes the path of least resistance. Doors should be closed whenever possible.

The couple who built the house where I grew up had his and her bedrooms connected by a walk-through closet with doors at each end. My 'nursery', and later bedroom, was one of the connecting rooms. All BR doors were closed at night in winter. All doors were open in summer after my DM installed a large window A/C in her bedroom that cooled the whole second floor. Doors were closed again after we had central A/C.

Our DS's bedroom door was kept closed at night, as was the door to the MBR. (Central HVAC.)

I slept with my parents until I was 5 years old. We lived in a 4 room house....out house out back. There was a living room, kitchen and bedroom and the other bedroom was about the size of a present day walk in closet. My sister and her 2 kids lived with us.

My mother was a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell, and there was a switchboard in the living room. The house came with the job.

When I was 5 years old, my parents built a house and we moved and my mother quit her job with SW Bell. (My sister remarried and moved to a nearby town).

The house was 2 bedrooms, bath, living room and kitchen, but had a screened in porch on the front and one that ran the length of the back. In the summer I slept on one of the screened in porches. I don't remember my parents bedroom door being closed.
