Pls help us to help you by providing a pic. Organic Potting mix doesn't really mean much to us here. Cactus & Succulent mix w/ equal amount of Perlite would be a good suggestion to ensure proper drainage.

No, it won't be traumatic for it to be repotted again. Pls be sure to use a pot w/ a hole. Also, I'd wait a few days after repotting. Root rot comes from improper soil &/or overwatering, not from repotting.

And make sure the root ball is under the soil where it belongs. You won't suffocate roots unless you overwater. I hope the new pot has a hole in it.

Thanks for your responses! This was my first time posting on house, and I did take a picture I’m not sure why it didn’t post. Yes, the pot has holes in it for sure, it is in organic cactus and succulent potting mix which I’ve used for the rest of my succulents for years - the only difference is the ceramic pot. The root ball was of course under the soil, but I didn’t bury him in it past where he was used to being buried. I just repotted him in a terra cotta pot and I think he’ll be okay- he was already growing lots of new roots. I just didn’t want it to be too traumatic for him if I had to repot him again. Thanks!

It's not too traumatic to repot again when needed. Pls LET GO of that idea as it is NONSENSE. The rootball should always be buried at the same level as before. Changing that risks that plant to root rot.

In case root ball has any dead-dry, damaged-broken or mushy-rotting roots, they should be cut off. It isn't traumatic for plant, it actually helps. Trimming roots is often suggested, if needed.

May I ask how do you know it is already growing new roots? Or are you saying it was growing them before you re-potted?

How much lower did you potted plant comparing to before? Some 'lifting' of plant is usually no problem. If any of my plant has nice, thick and almost woody root very close to surface, I often keep them exposed. Sometimes, too much of trunk could be under soil, and potting plant little higher should be no problem. But nothing should be overdone.

Any pot should work, in general, as long as potting mix drains well and there is a drainage hole in it. I just re-potted my Skinny fingers from small terracotta (it was in it for more than 4 years!) into plastic of better size.
