How to colour coordinate house brick, siding, concrete block exterior
Our house was built in 1969 and has three different elements to its exterior. It is concrete block on the bottom all around, brick on the front and part of the right side and siding all the way around the top. We would like to paint the concrete and siding, paint the shutters and leave the brick exposed. Brick can be nice. We have been stumped for months, not knowing how to solve the dilemma of how to coordinate colours for the bottom of the house and top if we are leaving the brick unpainted. Should we paint the brick, and concrete block the same colour? And if we leave the brick unpainted, how do we coordinate two colours for concrete and siding. I thought it would look funny if we painted the concrete and siding the same colour... stumped...
Also we want bold but soothing colours (not sure if those words go together), and if you have any advice on colour, we would adore you!!!!

How did you coordinate colors of roofing, siding, cultured stone?
Comments (12)you really need to know what you want as the primary color of the home, in terms of siding. then, determine what type of siding and go from there. i strongly suggest you get samples of EVERYTHING. once you determine the type of siding and color move on to roofing. i found this the most difficult since price varies tremendously. my husband wasn't sure of my roofing choice since there really is no difference in tone when placed directly next to the siding, but he had to trust me. we have a lot of trim to break it up and i really don't like very dark roof colors. after i pinned down those selects i took BOTH siding and roofing samples to look for stone. since my siding and roof are a light to mid tone gray, i wanted to bring in some deeper gray tones as well as some deeper burgundy and also some highlighted golds. i don't think i don't consider it "difficult" but definitely somewhat frustrating trying to track down everything. also: don't decide on siding material and color without pinning down your roof and stone. my GC wanted me to just go out and select a roof (so he could just slap it up) without having everything else but this is extremely short sighted imho. so... this is what i ended up with: siding: nichiha/weathered gray roofing, not the exact product, but similar: elderado stacked stone in olive grove: and what we have so far. stone isn't installed yet:...See MoreNeed Help - Exterior Trim and Door Color on Red Brick House

Comments (18)Grover, it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who can't use the SW visualizer! Made a trip to SW store to get quarts of darker and medium green, but they don't sell quarts of stain, either for wood or concrete. To try different colors, you have to buy a gallon! Comments (7)Are the columns cast concrete? Is everything paintable? I love black trim (my house is brick with black trim...) but I don't see it here with the tan brick, I would stick with earth tones. I would paint the two columns a buff color (assuming they are concrete) like Ralph Lauren Burlap. The trim I would keep all off white like Benjamin Moore Linen White- the current bright white is too stark. I would accent the front door and storm door- blue if you like though I'm partial to purple with this shade of tan. If you want to break up the sunroom a bit I could paint the clapboards a couple shades darker than the trim but I wouldn't go too contrasty or it will look disconnected- this was clearly closed in after construction so best not to emphasize it too much....See Morehousegal200
3 years agoA dark charcoal for siding and foundation would pick up the what seem to be the black bricks within the red bricks. No shutters whatsoever--this palette.

What would transform your house additionally is a complete redo of the landscaping--deep, well-defined beds in front and work in back. Have a small garden center help you make a plan for the front particularly--a mix of easy to maintain evergreen shrubs to frame your house. But have a plan--don't just plop a few plaints in there.

(I know I'm showing shutters on the second photo, but it's to offer an example of landscaping that will enhance your house almost more than anything else you can do.)

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoIt looks like you have vinyl siding, so I imagine that will stay white. You can also keep the block white, it doesn't look bad.
You can paint the block a deep earth red with brown in it, so that it blends with the brick. (Tea looks like the best match.)
I would do the door in a deep gold yellow and the shutters in a blue - this blue is a bit bright, maybe more navy. Remove the shutters from the large window.
The biggest change will come when you landscape the front of your house. I would plant an evergreen toward the side where the slope to the back is visible. Plant it enough away so that it won't touch the house as it matures, but hides some of the block.
