Comments (9)There was a tribute on the news and more info about him and his daughter caught in that riptide. The beach they were at was posted as dangerous to swimmers and surfers because of the extreme and ever-present riptides. From the ABC news footage, it looked like too much surf for swimming. Wonder why he would choose to swim there?...See MoreRIP Pineapple
Comments (11)I love ceramic large pots but they are so heavy. We're not moving those in and out of the basement if we can help it any more. I've been buying fiberglass? Or something similar for awhile. Very lightweight and attractive enough. As much as it pains me, I hate to buy anything plastic. Natural materials is always my go to. Even these are pretty expensive too. Some years, I don't have the time or the energy to work with a lot of containers. Not last year and this year is going to be another. Life changes. Oh well.... lol...See MoreRIP Neil Sedaka
Comments (14)" Famous Brill building, yes. But why infamous, Elmer? " Sorry laceyvail 6A, WV , I missed the question. Many of the Brill Building composers were taken advantage of. Many were young, extremely talented, and lured by offers of "real music industry jobs" and the chance to become known in the music business. Being young, they were easily taken advantage of - forced to sign non-negotiable contracts with non-customary terms disproportionately favoring the record publishers at the expense of the composers and lyric writers. The music business in the 50s and into the 60s was a land of scoundrels and crooks. Remember the payola scandal ? That was just one example of how things were done. Many cubbyholes of the music business had a significant mob presence. Two quick examples - Tommy James (and the Shondells) was signed to a record label run by a known and dangerous mobster. Though writing many of his own hit songs, and certainly performing on them, he never received any money from record sales. When he inquired, he was sometimes physically threated and told to go out touring if he wanted money. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' connections to organized crime and the control some had on them and their careers is covered (if only superficially) in the show Jersey Boys....See MoreRIP Chuck Norris
Comments (13)My favorite thing about Chuch Norris was the jokes. Mostly good-hearted (I say mostly just because I don’t know about any mean-hearted ones). A classic: Most people wear Superman pajamas. Superman wears Chuck Norris pajamas. And seen today: Now God is second in command. (don’t get on me, it’s not serious.)...See More- 6 years ago
