Dining Chair Dilemma
Comments (17)I love what you are doing with the room. I think black chairs. Is this your everyday dining room or for special occasions? If those chairs are anything like my black refrigerator, the smudges might drive you crazy. It looks great when brand new and then you can never get it to look that way again.... I saw these black wicker chairs with a clear glass table in another thread here about Amy Butler's house and thought you might want to consider something like this. http://gallery.apartmenttherapy.com/photo/amy-butler-house-tour/item/244790 Hopefully I am pasting that link correctly. kswl's comment about the arms taking up space is worth considering. Perhaps you could do two armchairs to flank the buffet (in all black) and the others armless. I do think the clear chairs with the clear table might wash out. I can also see a fabulous, bold centerpiece on the table that incorporates your accent color. Please post final pictures! GL! Comments (25)Jan, I have a green velvet runner that I could use on top of the white cloth... and I don't mind looking for another :) I use those gold leaf chargers under the plates so that should give the table plenty of sparkle! I like that idea, these are all grown ups, I am so used to setting the table for our extended family of big and small kids. The kitchen is much less formal, with off white china and either the reindeer plates and bowls from pottery barn and/or those 12 days of Christmas salad plates. I also use Christopher Radko's "Tree" bowls in the DR, they coordinate beautifully with the Lenox and will add more pattern to the white/silver/gold. Okay, we're getting there! Vampire, that is a great idea---I can take down some of the photos and porcelain now populating some of those shelves (not many, because we have so many books) and replace them with the smaller nutcrackers---! The backs of the shelves in the library are 3 inch planked painted the same color as the shelves. I am thinking I might get a nice green or red craft paper (like scrapbooking paper?) to put in the back of the shelves that I use for the smaller nutcrackers, so they will stand out. Has anyone done that? Maybe a lighter green instead of red? Or even a pretty blue, just to mix it up and since so many of those things are painted with blue uniforms or accents?...See MoreDesign Dilemma - Dining Table - Which finish? Help!!!
Comments (21)Holly-Kay - Thanks I think I am leaning to the black for sure. You can purchase the chairs and table separately, or as a set. I haven't read the reviews for the chairs, but for the table alone they were really good. Island - I have 4 parsons type chairs with slip covers. I think the fabric of the slipcovers will soften the look vs. wood chairs. Plus I already have them so no money out of pocket there. And for when I add the leaf and extend the table I will use this bench for additional seating for 2 (cushion to be added and top will be upholstered)....See MoreNeed space for Powder Room in Kitchen
Comments (30)H202 I agree, it is nice to have a powder room on the first floor as a convenience, and when you live in an urban house (very nice by the way), you sometimes have to make tradeoffs. When I had a powder room in a rather public place, I would generally tell people "there is one here and one downstairs" and people could use whichever one they felt comfortable with. (And the small one had a very loud exhaust fan). I think people kinda play it by ear, most guests are not going to jump up during dinner and go into the bathroom a few feet away, I think a lot of people would go to the more remote one during dinner. If there are a bunch of people around at a cocktail party, they may not care as much. I dunno, if you eat in diners in NYC, the restrooms are about 3 feet square and right there, it's just how it is....See MoreJilly
