Cost to repair damage caused by a bathroom leak.

I bought a house recently that needs to have a repair of a leak and also the damage caused by the leak. It was suspected of having a leak coming from the bathroom on the survery, and the chap (who was very good and thorough) said it may cost around £500 to fix, as the leak damaged one of the lounge walls and the corner of the ceiling (they are below the bathroom).

I had a contracter come to see it once I got the house, and the quote was £1400. He told me they need to make a hole in the ceiling to find the leak, fix the likely leaking pipe, and then plaster over the living room wall (one side) and corner of the ceiling. A corner of the kitchen ceiling also needs to be repaired. I was a bit surprised at the cost considering the house is small. Does it seem reasonable to pay this much?
