See if this helps to balance out the space. I don't like the tone of the red chairs with the fireplace, and think that neutral leather would look nice. They are nice chairs and you might consider them in a bedroom or other room in the house. I also don't think the wood tone of the mantle shelf goes with the fireplace brick. It could be my monitor, but the brick has some pink undertones, the mantle is too orange. I would like to see the mantle stained darker like the curio cabinet. I think an area rug would look nice in the LR. I think adding window treatments would be one of the first things to do, as it would warm up the space, and help bring the 2 windows by the fireplace into proportion in the room. There are also a lot of vertical things going on, and not enough horizontal surfaces to "ground" the space. With the curio, china hutch, and secretary all being the same proportions, I would like to see some console tables or end tables that are more grounding at that midlevel in the space. I think the lighting is fine if you like it. But adding some lamps on consoles or sofa tables would bring some light lower to read in the space. Overall, a nice space....See MoreLr/dr decisions
Comments (33)Kiki, definitely rent the harp before you buy! You can buy a harp used, too. I did-- I got a gorgeous special order harp, and years later, when I resold, I lost very little (if any) money. The Daphne is a great one to start with because you still get pedal harp tension and all of the mechanics (not the same range, though) but it is very portable compared to concert grands. This was a huge issue for me because I am pretty small. Also easier to fit into a vehicle. I think the green would look lovely. What length are you thinking? Comments (31)Thank you Bev for giving me the visualization I've been lacking! It really helps! I agree that the colors In the painting have been giving me difficulty. I may try to move it into the DR or another room, but it is quite large, so I'm not sure. In any case, you have helped me feel bolder about getting started on this project. Thank you!! Chucksmom: I I00% agree that if you love something, it doesn't matter if it's "out". In my case, I do think I'm tired of the colors and need a change. Since the whole house needs painting, it seems like a good time to implement these changes. The chandelier was something I really loved for a long time, but I need a aimpler look. I have a friend who wants it and it will be perfect in her DR. Kippy: I've always thought it was strange that the furniture faces the stairs. Maybe it's partly why the room feels weird to me. That and the high ceilings make it feel cold. We actually never use that room other than when there are large gatherings that spill into that part of the house. We all congregate in the FR. Comments (6)Jute rugs IMO belong outside at the door entry and no where else. They shed crap on the floor constantly. I find seagrass a nice option not the nicest on bare feet but not bad....See MoreKatherine
