OK, for one thing, how are you going to maintain lights that high? There will be dusting and eventually bulb replacement. You can't really put a ladder on stairs.

Secondly, it looks to me like you definitely need the light for functional purposes in the stairwell for safety. Some people see better than others, and there will be times at night that lighting is essential. Whatever you are planning there, make sure it will shed light down on the actual stairs for safety.

I hope you do have some overhead lighting, and also those sconces would have too much lower, like the picture above to really be functional. Then comes projection, you need something that is fairly flush to the wall, the staircase in the picture is wider than yours with fewer turns.

You will want to look at ADA compliant sconces they often have less projection.

Yes, I do and also, my house will be open at the top of the stairs - the house I was using as a guide has an interior wall ...It really blocks so much natural light !! Are you saying to lower the sconce level ?
