THe labor will be the big cost difference here. A correctly done shower is a lot more labor than is a simple alcove tub with tiled walls, especially if you have to hand build the shower floor. Using a prebuilt pan does help to cut down the labor, but it still a bit more time involved than a tub. The two also have different plumbing requirements, so that is another area where labor costs can be different. You will have to have the drain relocated and enlarged for a shower if the area is already set up for a tub. And while you will still need to waterproof the walls for either setup, the actual amount of tile involved won't be dramatically different. If you do a shower curtain instead of tub door (which are nasty and difficult to clean) the costs will be less expensive. Even a box store stock door can run you $400 if you want frameless.

It's a more limited market, but the quality is better. I have Perlick fridge drawers, and with them, you are getting an energy star rating (not sure if that applies to the freezer version, but they were the only fridge drawers that were energy star rated as of a year ago), a high quality compressor with a high BTU rating that gives quick recovery after opening and closing (I meant to remember how long it took to get back down to temp once we got power back post-Ike but I forgot -- it was quick though). You get stainless steel drawers, a stainless interior, and a commercial quality product that can take heavy daily use. We chose Perlick because of the size (needed 24"), quality and power. They are installed in a hutch in our breakfast room and they are opened repeatedly with each meal and in between -- more than the large fridge. Some of the others seemed to be okay for a gameroom or occassional use, but we needed to make sure ours could take a lot of heavy use. The SZ were three inches wider and too tight for our space. The drawers were an extra expense and it seemed like they were higher than I would have expected, but I haven't been disappointed. If I were to do it all again, I would put in drawers or not have undercounter refrigeration at all. They are SO much easier to use! Ours are something everyone likes about our remodel, and they are my sister's favorite feature of all. I'm glad I got mine when I did though -- they were about $2200 when list was about $2500.

Something like this, maybe? I downsized to an 18' upright freezer when we bought this house, thinking I could get by with smaller and energy efficient. It's barely big enough, even with a roomy freezer area in my French door refer, and a little space in the garage refrigerator. I ordered three of the above baskets and they just came FedEx this week. I put pork products (bacon, pieces of ham I'd frozen for soups, couple of packages of pork steaks) in one basket, cheeses and odds and ends of other things in another, and single serving sized things along with a few items that should be used soonest in the third. I think they are going to work out well. One thing I'm finding with beginning to freeze much vacuum packed these days, those vacuum sealed packages are slippery - and the excess ends make it hard to stack, keep things neat. I bought freezer butchers paper and may start wrapping some things in paper. Back when we used to have half a beef, share half a pork with a friend, all was wrapped in paper and I didn't really see a difference in frozen shelf life when well wrapped. And I've had enough practice I do know how to wrap well. Tidier ;0) Editing to add - I am not that Ebay seller ;0) Only a consumer who needed a tidier freezer and spent an hour browsing Amazon, Target, others last week before ordering on Ebay. I promise.

You need both a defined budget and an architect it is hard to determine costs and benefits without actual plans. I worked with an architect when undecided between adding a fourth bedroom with a bath in the attic or just adding a small second floor addition above a ground level sunroom with foundation that was adjacent to our present master bedroom to add a bath. I paid for both plans than interviewed contractors and got precise bids. The smaller Sq foot plan cost 75k less than expanding into an unfinished attic would have but we did not get a fourth bedroom.
