Here's a third take on the rug placement. The original placement definitely made it look like it was too small for the room. The 2nd placement didn't seem to take it far enough to create a "conversation" group. This 3rd placement is definitely a conversation group, but the new blank area feels too blank to me and makes me desperately want a proper 8x12. (current is 6.9x10). Maybe its just because I got used to it the way it was. I also am not crazy about the abstract trees over the sofa. looks bland to me. I miss the hydrangea, but it may just be the wrong pictures. too small... too neutral. Doesn't tie in with rug colors as well as the hydrangea did. @junco did you see the original version in the link with the trees on the tv wall. And a closeup of the fp... I just LUV that picture -- no matter where it is! And here's a picture in the foyer that I could bring into the LR space somewhere. Easier to replace a foyer picture that doesn't have to match anything. and I just received and installed an online high-risk purchase of a rug for the nearby sunroom-office. The picture showed camel, but the description said light-green. I felt I could live with either if it was a nice shade. It's not like me to take a gamble like that, but I did (they promised return free shipping if I didn't like it) and I love it. Could be bigger, but it will do for now. The room was soooo cold before. Now I can do windows. Grommet panels for now. fancy roman top-down-bottom-up cordless shades when some money comes in. And I wouldn't be surprised if that green is similar to Huntington Green. On the way to the paint store now to grab some more green samples for FP/Window wall.

Renee, I look for old sheet music to frame! Found a song with the name of our street in the title, and I picked up some seasonal/holiday music that I change out during the year. So fun! Fori, As for the music "library", I bought an old sheet music cabinet from a neighbor. The condition isn't great, but a word of caution: I think they are intended to hold SHEET music, not books. The shallow drawer bottoms are not solid but slatted, and don't feel super strong. It's cool, but not as easy to use unless you are very organized and know what you keep where. I also have a small metal Bisley 5-drawer unit (from the scratch-and-dent corner at a The Container Store, it's missing the bottom drawer, which leaves an open slot for music) Each drawer has one of those little slots that hold a label, so the jazz goes in one, the video game music printouts in another, etc. and we can find them, and put things away easily. The books are in two large "boxes" beside the piano: one is a sturdy basket, the other used to be a deep kitchen drawer. One sits on the floor under a small table, the basket sits on too of the table, which is just the right size to hold them. The music stands upright and it's easy to flip through. The whole set-up is not that attractive lol! My friend and here husband are both musicians, and they installed cabinetry in the living room for the music. Shelves close together to hold loose paper flat, and shelves spaced for books and binders, as well drawers for metronomes, pens and pencils, instrument tools, etc. The shelves are also attractively labeled to suit their needs; I think it's a removable/movable label. Our piano came after we'd lived here for a couple of years, it is in a corner but it is a great spot! In this living room, only a buffet or console type piece of furniture would work, because it's where you enter the LR from the foyer, so our console piano is perfect.

What a lovely space. I think some wall brackets with small chains and clear votive would look nice. You could place small plants in them or even candles. It would lessen the dilemma center the china cabinet on the wall or center the piano. Perhaps the piano could be placed on an angle in another corner or part of the room. Good luck.

You have options! An accent wall can be a great way to accentuate interesting architectural features. Pulling the dark smoky blue from your dining room onto the living room wall furthest from the dining room would help blend the spaces while balancing the visual weight of the saturated color. Painting the wall adjacent to the dining room in that color might create a density on that side of your blended spaces. The alternative would be to pull that blue in in accessories.
