Those are gorgeous blooms, Ann!!! They look like they’re from a well established shrub and not a new bareroot - very good quality blooms.

My idea of a rose! I find it hard to keep all the DAs straight, but will be remembering this charmer. : -)

Does this remind anyone else of the old Austin Mary Magdalene? The color, to me, is very similar.

This is my Mary Magdalene Austin rose, which I think is no longer being sold (picture from a previous year.)

Lek Arun - Emily Bronte is strongly fragrant. The pot is really huge, the biggest size I could find at the nursery but I'm not sure of the gallon size. I put it on one of those plant platforms with wheels so I could test out locations. :))

Dave - Emily Bronte took off immediately from a hefty bare root from DA. It's a delicate rose on a sturdy plant. Most of the blooms are in a cluster; I snipped off side buds for purposes of photography so the single blooms might have gotten a bit stronger as a result. The blooms aren't the type that blow in a day. The rose holds together well and lasts about 4-5 days on the bush, gradually fading in color to white. I didn't cut any to take inside so I'm not sure how it does as a cut flower but I would think it would be good.

Vicky - This rose is similar to Mary Magdalene which I have as well but the petals have a bit more definition. MM's petals are softer and thinner so the blooms don't last as long as EB. The colors are similar but I think MM has a more pronounced peachy tone whereas EB leans more towards pink. Here's a post I did on MM earlier this month.

I saw 20 inch plastic pots at Sam’s for $22 and they looked huge. I was thinking about it.

But, I guess that was why your roses are so beautiful. Lot of room.

I think recall paying $15 so it's probably smaller than the Sam's pot.

Ann, your pictures are so much better than the official photos on the Austin website! In their photos, the flowers have a somewhat “flat” quality somehow - I went back & forth and eventually got one because I love strongly fragrant roses & wanted to try it, but I wasn’t overly optimistic - your pictures give me hope!

Mine hasn’t bloomed yet, but it’s a strong grower & looks healthy so far, despite the fact that I pretty significantly trimmed the roots to get it to fit into a too small pot. (The roots on mine spread outward more than usual, as opposed to growing down.) So, I’m impressed with how quickly it took off, given it’s mistreatment!

Thank you for the comparison between Mary Magdalene and Emily Bronte. I had admired EB in the Austin catalog but wondered how similar it would be to MM. It is helpful to hear from someone who has grown both of them!

Hi cyndita - thanks for your kind words! EB is a bit flat but there's just enough cupping to be charming. EB was a hefty bare root as I recall and seems to be a strong grower so I think you'll get a very healthy plant! I you post some pics.

You're welcome Vicky! I should add that my MM is a tiny plant compared to EB. I've had her for several years and she's only about 2x1.5 ft, a weak grower in my opinion, at least the specimen that I have. EB on the other hand is robust and is already about 3 x 2.5 after being in a pot for a few months. I wonder how much space she'll need if I eventually put her in the ground!

Looks beautiful for 2 days then fades to a horrible pale colour. Very weak fragrance too. I’m not a fan. :/

So far I’m having a very positive experience but it‘s not very hot yet. I’ll have to experience this rose for the entire season before I come to a conclusion but I liked the first flush a lot.

These pictures look Multicolored but when I watch thus rose on YouTube they look white,is the color noticeable?

This is typical coloring for EB for me. The blooms will fade to cream/white, especially if left out on the plant in the sun.

Those of you that have emy bronte and/or floralfairy tale roses will both if them eventually fade in color to white or cream?

Also does anybody grow oh happy day roses?

Oh happy day roses, do they grow in shade of white yellows and pinks? Do korde roses bloom prolifically or will it vary on type and zone(I'm in 6b nj)?
