I was hoping that you all would tell me to rip them out, but to make hubby happy I was entertaining the idea of salvaging some of them. We are in zone 6, Cincinnati. I appreciate the compliments...it is a cute house. It's actually a tri-level sears roebuck-you don't see too many of this style. The proportion of the windows etc keep throwing me off but I just don't have the money to throw at structure right now. I'm a hydrangea, hosta smoke bush kind of girl. I love a relaxed cottage style garden and I feel like it will compliment the house well. Any specific holly suggestions?...I noticed so many beautiful hollies over the winter. I'm so looking forward to getting my hands dirty with this project....I'm still petrified of the bald house look though!

Anthurium has a crown and is usually divided, not propagated. Most cultivated Anthuriums are self-sterile, so although they can also be started from seeds, an individual plant can't produce them. After a little further investigating, I wonder if the Pothos (Epipremnum) leaves I mentioned have thrips? "Feeding takes place with rasping type mouth parts. Infested leaves become curled or distorted, with silver-gray scars or calloused areas where feeding has occurred."

ahreno, you can free up a bit of space by either changing the door to an outward swing or to a pocket door. Unfortunately, the 2 drawings don't show up well on my monitor so I can't see the shaded blue area. I'd guess it shows as darker grey with a 92" ceiling. If so, by incorporating this closet into your bath, working from the alcove to the tub, you can easily place a toilet, pedestal sink or vanity and a frameless shower stall on the 107" wall perpendicular to your tub along the 84" wall. If you don't add the 92" H area, you'll need to incorporate the red area into the larger closet. You'll be left with a 68 X 84 room. Then you can place a sink where the door currently swings in and may want to place the toilet in front of the wall that the pocket door slides into. The tub still works on the 84" wall and a 36 x 28 tight shower will fit. Not ideal but it gives you the luxury of a fully glassed in single person shower, your large claw foot tub and the necessities. Obviously, you can have a much more spacious scenario by incorporating the closet area, but this gives you an option.

It's a little hard to read, but it looks like you don't have very much space, between your island and the other counters. I'm guessing there's no room for stools...and as Remodelfla points out, the island is actually a barrier. It seems like it would be difficult to access the fridge, too. I notice that your sink (under the window) is not exactly centered on that part of the cabinetry. This makes me wonder, if all things considered, a peninsula might work better, in your space. She debated, between an island or a peninsula, but decided that a peninsula would allow her to more easily access the cabinetry on the back wall.
