Comments (16)I lost a bunch of my teeth ... mainly because I hadn't cared for them well enough. Take care of yours, please. If you have a dental school anywhere near, go there. The local one, 20 miles away in our university did a lot of work for me, including full top plate and partial bottom (three of mine left) and it wasn't too expensive. Their evaluation changed after they'd done some major work on some that they later pulled and they gave me a credit. Then I made a contribution to the school - deductible. When they were extracting a bunch of my top ones and my student (east Indian, gentle lady) quoted these prices: extraction $32.00 first tooth in a quadrant, $16.00 each of 4 subsequent, as she was making up the account, when I said, $96.00, no one paid much attention (receptionist there, as well). When she added it all up and came to that figure, they looked at me and asked how I'd figured that so quickly. I said that base figure was $32.00,and 4 at $16.00 each was the same as two more at $32.00, that 3 x 30 is 90 and 3 x 2 is 6 - total, 96. If no dental school available, shop around - I think it possible that you can find a better deal than the quote that knocked the plaque off of your teeth (almost). Good wishes for satisfactory dental care - at a decent price. ole joyful...See MoreDo you declutter right before the housecleaners visit?
Comments (64)"Are there any readers whose husband or (male) SO handles the cleaning on a regular basis?" Well, he died 22 years ago, but my husband did most of the vacuuming and kitchen clean up, some of the cooking and shopping (with a detailed list), most of his own laundry and all of his own ironing. He drove me crazy when he'd "straighten up," meaning I'd watch him take a pile of anything that had accumulated on a counter or table and make a much neater pile of it instead of just putting it away. So our clutter wasn't too cluttery. :-) He also would clean the toilets, if I outlasted him (which I could easily do for vacuuming, I detest it so) - they weren't awful, but he'd do them before me. I'm a terribly messy cook - meaning lots of pans and dishes, so I miss his efficient and cheerful clean-up after me duty (he appreciated the good meals). He also would empty the dishwasher which I also hate. So, living solo, I try to just force myself to do the jobs I hate, but I still miss coming home to a freshly vacuumed floor. I did get a Roomba, which helps....See MorePlanning kitchen remodel – need design advice please!
Comments (14)damiarain and mama goose - thank you for those bold and beautiful layouts! You've found a graceful solution to a lot of my wishes. I'm on the fence about windows to the fridge/stove side of the house, because it faces our driveway and the neighbor's (not so attractive) yard and house. But the natural light would be wonderful! Great food for thought, thank you again. I'll have to check the space to see if there's room for dining table in kitchen. What's that great layout software you're using? rantontoo - We don't absolutely need two spaces to eat, and I had thought about shifting that door as you describe -- it would be between kitchen and DR. That way the traffic lane wouldn't go through the kitchen. I just couldn't figure out a good way to do that. Unfinished crawl space is underneath the whole main level where kitchen, etc. are....See MoreDentist appointment
Comments (59)Ritaweeda, I would have more confidence in her opinion if she had actually checked my teeth thoroughly. She didn't, just a quick glance. My old dentist actually used instruments to check the integrity of my teeth and old fillings. She also is the one who would checked my gum health, not the hygienist. The new dentist also didn't tell me which teeth specifically where affected, just 7, and then told me I needed to go discuss it with her office manager regarding pricing to fix them. When I said how is that possible, I just went to the dentist a year and a half ago (I thought it was but turns out it was 2 1/2 years) she told me I had a lot of "dark cracks" that she would fix if it were her teeth. So is it staining from tea and coffee or decay? When I got in the office to discuss the pricing, I told the office manager I wanted a second opinion and asked for a list of which teeth were affected. There were 10, not 7. Then I'm thinking not only are they trying to scam me but my insurance company too. My old dentist would have told me exactly which tooth/teeth had a problem and told me my options. I have an appointment early Monday morning with my old dentist so we will see. I also decided not to go back into the other dentists office for my xrays. I'm angry, and these days I don't always hold my tongue like I did when I was younger....See MoreAnnegriet
