Mother's Day Lunch Menu . . . Ideas?
Comments (5)I think you could add some lovely breads or rolls. Personally, the spinach/gruyere soup sounds a bit heavy - but not having tasted it, I don't know. I would probably be inclined to do a fresh spring pea soup (perhaps served cold) instead. Are you serving all this at one time, or in courses? I am thinking that you could use some other beverage, as you have a lot of fruit things going on, and something non-fruity might be nice. It sounds like a lovely luncheon for the ladies of the family!...See MoreMother's Day Menu
Comments (0)DD wants us to have a covid safe gathering on May 10th. My son's birthday is the 13th my sister-in-law's birthday is the 14th and my birthday is on the 20th so we usually celebrate on mother's Day together. We will probably park and eat. There are quite a few very large parking lots not in use on Sundays so that is probably where we will go. My thoughts on our share of the menu is hot and mild Italian sausages. After that I'm a little bit unsure. I know I can keep things hot because I have my hot and cold cooler and we are going to get another one for the cold stuff but I'm not sure whether to have an eggy frittata or simple sandwiches egg salad Etc. I will also do fresh fruit and whipping cream with maple syrup to drizzle over. My daughter and sister-in-law will make sure that there are snacky foods for the sugar eaters and salty food eaters. They both know that I can't have any of that so they usually supply it. I will probably have fish as well sister-in-law but the rest don't mind artery-clogging stuff. Both sister-in-law and I do not eat red meat. What about you what would menu would you plan for your mother's day or family Day event once you can? I am ridiculously excited to plan for this. I am perfectly fine to wait another week or ten if they tell us to but still I just can't wait to see my daughter, six feet away even, for more than a few minutes! I can't believe how much I miss sitting across a table from her. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about it. I posted this on my cell through here HDC, and then chose KT and cooking forums, but it never showed up here, at HD conversations. So am posting it here separately....See MoreHappy Mother’s Day!
Comments (10)Happy Mother’s Day to all ❤️ We had a small group of DH, me, DS2and my mother. The kids nominated DS2 to buy plants for my mom and me. We had a very lazy day, with lunch of quiche Lorraine I had made yesterday, and a dinner of chicken prepared like schnitzel ( cutlets pounded thin, dusted with flour and paprika, dipped in egg and rolled in panko and cooked in the smallest amount of oil possible), on a bed of creamed spinach and mushrooms, served with saffron rice. Watermelon pieces as a salad and coconut cake for dessert, all made by me. Our club restaurant isn’t open for sit down meals yet, and I did not want to risk going elsewhere just yet, so I had this all planned and it took just an hour to put it together. We ate in the informal dining area and I used one of the azalea plants the kids gave me as a centerpiece. Nothing fancy for a change, and I found a box of unused tray liners from Hester and a Cook when we moved and used those as sort of faux placemats. So glad we did not have a big do that required a lot of cleanup, as after dinner DH got a call, his mother died on Mother’s Day evening. She was in her late 80s and had Alzheimer’s for more than a decade, cared for in her own home according to her wish by round the clock helpers. DH and DS2 had driven to Alabama to see her the day before and found her especially frail, so it was not a surprise to anyone. Still, any passing is a blow, a jolt in the road. I’m more thankful than ever to have my mother! DH’s brother, a physician, was with their mom at the end. We will have a very quiet family funeral in a few days. “A life well lived is not to mourn, but to envy and inspire hope.”...See MoreHappy Mother’s Day!
Comments (12)Thank you,Eld and to all you mothers on KT, have a wonderful day. Hopefully, the last two days of rain will clear up enough to have our mothers day dinner at my daughter's new backyard entertainment area....See Moreyeonassky
