Mother's Day menu

DD wants us to have a covid safe gathering on May 10th. My son's birthday is the 13th my sister-in-law's birthday is the 14th and my birthday is on the 20th so we usually celebrate on mother's Day together.
We will probably park and eat. There are quite a few very large parking lots not in use on Sundays so that is probably where we will go.
My thoughts on our share of the menu is hot and mild Italian sausages. After that I'm a little bit unsure. I know I can keep things hot because I have my hot and cold cooler and we are going to get another one for the cold stuff but I'm not sure whether to have an eggy frittata or simple sandwiches egg salad Etc.
I will also do fresh fruit and whipping cream with maple syrup to drizzle over.
My daughter and sister-in-law will make sure that there are snacky foods for the sugar eaters and salty food eaters. They both know that I can't have any of that so they usually supply it.
I will probably have fish as well sister-in-law but the rest don't mind artery-clogging stuff. Both sister-in-law and I do not eat red meat.
What about you what would you plan for your mother's day or family Day event at this time of year?
I am ridiculously excited to plan for this. I am perfectly fine to wait another week or two if they tell us to but still I just can't wait to see my daughter, six feet away even, for more than a few minutes! I can't believe how much I miss sitting across a table from her. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.
I posted this a through home decorating conversations forum so it's a little wonky and I can't fix it. To top it off it didn't even show up on the conversations forum? Well will post it there separately.

I had planned to spend 3 weeks with my dear mother, 88 years old, in Columbus,Ohio at the end of March and into April. I'm sending her See's Candies and a roll of Forever stamps she requested. Have also been sending her paperback novels from Amazon since her library is closed. I'm trying to find a nursery who will deliver a big pot of pansies for her front porch. I miss her like crazy.

I am so happy for your Mother's Day plans. It must be torture to be separated from loved ones during this time.

I am home with all my kiddos. My second born is quite the chef, and the celebration planner like his mother, so I suspect he will make a special breakfast for the family on Mother's Day. My mother is no longer here, so I have nothing to plan.

Luckygal, where in the world are you? Somewhere near a beach obviously--but which one. Sorry no good luck on the TS shopping, do keep trying! Jeanne, I have two baker's racks outside, one is a corner unit--but neither look nearly as cute as yours with your collections and vignettes. I need to work on mine I think. That is so neat that you do the Farmer's market too. Candy, I'm another one who does tablescapes for my "imaginary" friends. DH will only eat at the table when we have company--rest of the time he prefers to eat in front of the tv. Karen, I didn't do a table, but I did glue a little cheese tray and glass dome on a pedestal and decorate it--can I get any points for that? ;o) Kathleen, the rooster napkins like in your photo that you shared with me are some of my favs. We don't do sit down breakfast often, but I like to just sit the table and display them on the plates because they look so cute.

Well, current hubby is not father to my children nor am I mother to his . . . result is for him there is not much for HIM to do today. His mom passed 6 years ago and mine 16 years ago. He was super cranky when discussing MD so I am guessing he is feeling it and not talking about it. I got gifts for both my DD and DIL; but, will likely only see my DD today. HER hubby has arranged brunch at a local smokehouse for my DD, the grandchildren, his parents and myself (possibly DD if he chooses to attend - he left some doubt yesterday if he was going to sing in the choir and miss the brunch- yep cranky). I know DS was invited but DIL has crowd issues so they will spend the day with her mother and father, I might get a phone call at some point today, but will not get a visit from him. Last week I watched my eldest grand (5 yrs old) and we picked out a card (he didn't care what it said past Mommy and had Mickey Mouse on it) and a pretty potted plant for her front porch. I let him pick out the card and plant himself. I have no idea what he picked but it had multiple colors: purple, orange and pink, so matched what she had lining her walkway. I think he did a good job at it.

Thank you Zalco! I'm so happy for you that you get to have your family around with you. I keep threatening to move everybody into a big house next fall. We would probably have to rent an extra house in case of isolation though.

Pllog what flowers did you order?

I usually have some flowers around for our birthdays and mothers day but not sure what to get this year. Also will as usual get some for sister-in-law. I would like something a little different. Her DH isn't very forthcoming that way and so we usually buy her a bouquet. Maybe sunflowers. We will be cautiously sanitizing and covid-19 responsible when we give them to her. :-)

I just put in an order with my regular florist. Something interesting. I leave it to her good taste. No contact delivery. :)

The house sounds like a fine idea. My household is diminished. I know a lot of people have clumped together to stay home. We're more dispersed than clumped. OTOH, I still feel like all I do is clean the kitchen...

We never did eat out on Mothers day. The restaurants were always crazy busy. It will just be us, our daughter and 2 grandgirls. So far all I know is we are having spinach quiche.

I have no plans here either. I have to run that election on May 5 as I'm the Township Clerk, and so will be in self-imposed quarantine for 2 weeks before I see my Mother. It also happens to be our wedding anniversary on that day, so we might make dinner together for that. My girls will call, I'm sure.

No plans here either. Sis in laws tried to organize family dinner, but some of us thought that was a bad idea. Several vulnerable relatives. Mom declared that we will wait until it seems safer.

No, no plans here. Not sure how it could be done safely. 6 ft isn't safe without a mask. More like 12-18 ft. Even then not 100% safe.

Maybe a hot favorite crockpot meal, each household brings their own serving spoon, plates and eating tools. Bringing their own chairs. Quiet spot so 16 ft apart is comfortable without yelling?.

No, could not do that.

We have no dinner plans, but will get together by zoom. It is my granddaughters 5th birthday so it will be difficult. Usually we do a spread here for all the kids.

So, same as Easter .... as the leg of lamb awaits yet another holiday gathering ....

4th of July?

ETA: gd was born on Mother's Day 2015.

My daughters daughter was born on May 10, 2009, Mothers day!. They have had a few awesome Mother Daughter days since... and will have one again this year.

Yes, I know, has nothing to do with your post... but your post made me realize, they have that special day again this year.

This is all contingent upon the government relaxing restrictions. So don't worry. They have said early to late May for an easing of restrictions at this point. Who knows what that means.

We all wear masks and gloves but it's hard to eat with them. We've already discussed how we will all sit in our cars and eat and then just visit when we're done. It is very complicated but it's worth the extra extra effort to keep everybody safe. It's apparently our new way of balancing things, having an enjoyable time but not even a bit close to one another. I'll take it even if I did end up being 16 feet from my family.

DD is already picking out a location. She wants music and says everyone can talk on their cell phones and text one another if it gets too loud. :-). It might be a sign of our future anyway if this continues into the Fall again. DH has been using this method of headsets and cell phones on the job site. I think more and more people will try to keep their distance that way anyway.

I hope everybody can safely visit soon but I'm realistic at the same time.

Seagrass - Thank you for mentioning See’s. I tried to order from them for Easter and they were not taking orders, so happy to see that they are back. I think I will send some to my MIL for Mother’s Day.
