A $600 pre-introductory Don Hollingsworth peony. Worth every penny. I did not participate in the higher bidding wars as that was my limit. Actually my limit was $300 but my husband egged me on.

I just bought a new refrigerator because the old one was leaking and couldn't be repaired. I didn't shop around or try to find a used one. I found one place that could get it installed right away and wrote a check. I'm sure I could have saved some money if times had been normal and I could have checked Craig's List, OfferUp, etc.

A weekend at an ocean resort community (where private homes are rented by the management company). It was a complicated situation where I'd promised a weekend somewhere else to my grandson, he'd invited a friend to join us, and the original plan fell through. Not able to bear disappointing him, I looked for an alternative, but it was last minute, Labor Day Weekend and the ONLY house available where we wanted to go was a waterfront home that sleeps something like 18 people. 4 stories, 6 or 7 bedrooms, 5 or 6 bathrooms. Fancy. And SO much money. I just couldn't believe what it cost, nor that I did it. But I decided I could leave him the $ in my will or give him the memory. He LOVED everything about it, so it was worth it.

A couple months ago I saw a good price on my brand of butter, so loaded up with 6 boxes. Got to the checkout and it was full regular price! The darn sale didn't start til the following week! so instead of $2.50 I paid $5/pound. Times six.

Groceries and household goods. I usually shop sales and check prices. Now with shelter in place fiasco I get tired of driving from place to place so when I see something I just buy it. Probably the last thing I overpaid for was Diet Dr. Pepper.

I seldom buy anything overpriced so the closest thing to that is the Grey Goose vodka that I recently bought and possibly the Bombay Sapphire Gin. And I'll soon be buying a new bottle of Patron tequila. I just don't like cheap liquor and it's probably my imagination but I don't give a flying $%^$.

but then, when I found sanitizing wipes yesterday (reasonably prices) I cut the pack in half, so I have twice as many sheets.

Well, a lot of my pink kitchen stuff was overpriced. The particular shade of pink I fancy is not easy to find and the sellers on ebay know it. I paid 25.00 for a spatula. I've paid 80 for a frying pan. I refused to pay 75.00 for a can opener but in did consider it. Luckily, pink is coming back into fashion I guess because I can find it a lot easier now and at the same price as other colors.

A few years ago I bought an overpriced new car. I was under a time crunch and didn't think I could get a better deal elsewhere so honestly didn't even try - and about 2 days after I got my new car home I saw another dealer listing the exact same new car for ~$2000 cheaper.

Anything purchased at an auction!! Have not attended one in years as prior track records with any kind of auction were frightening! It is something about the competition with others that stimulates one to go over budget without blinking....and potentially way over budget.

Have previously acquired a few choice plants that way however grossly overpaid for them considering how easy they were to come by just a year or two later.

I was asked to be a donor for several years at a charity auction, contributing my landscape design or consultation services. And in turn was invited to attend the auction itself gratis (big ticket entry fee). Between the free booze, great dinner and wonderful array of auction items, it turned out to be a hugely expensive proposition. We did score a couple of great auction items but wound up paying through the nose for them. All for a good cause, however :-)

Gardengal's mention of auctions reminded me of when I was in a focus group for people who participated in auctions. I got in because I liked to buy through Ebay, but most of the others went to regular auctions. One guy, who bought a lot of artwork, spoke about how relieved he was when he DIDN'T win an auction.

Probably the instant dry yeast that I recently ordered, at about $21 with expedited shipping for a one pound bag. I have yeast in Los Angeles that I forgot to bring with me, and now I have a lot of bread flour and no yeast. Sometimes it is difficult to find bread these days, and so I wanted to be able to bake my own. I also forgot to bring bread pans with me, but I can improve that and perhaps make ciabatta or focaccia bread. I haven't made focaccia in a while, and I've never made ciabatta, but I'm sure it is easier to do. I've made six-strand challah, and I have plenty of eggs, and so I might make that, as it does not require a bread pan.

For those that are out of yeast you can make your own sourdough by allowing the flour and water to ferment via the yeasts that are in the air. There are several methods so you will need to look to see which one you are most comfortable with.

TOILET PAPER! During this no TP time of life I ordered an extra-jumbo roll that is used in businesses. I thought it was sold here in the US but I find out 20 days later when it still had not arrived it was from China. I got a discount code so I only paid $16 for it. I thought I was getting a deal. When it arrived it was in my mailbox.! The hole in the middle of it was about the size of a regular roll of TP. They said it is equal to 10 rolls but I really doubt its more than 3 double rolls if that, Live & learn. Never buy from "The Fit King" I was taken for a ride

I've overpaid at least twice (and certainly more than that) at auctions. The first was for an antique secretary chest - I fell in love and paid nearly $2000 for it back in 1979 or so. The local auction house recently dated it as 17th century, but the deep relief carvings on it were probably added later ; however there is not really any interest in this style so not valued anywhere near what I paid for it. The other was one of my first purchases of a painting on ebay. I don't love the painting now enough to feel that the price was worth it.

When I used to have gardens I grew all sorts of plants but really loved roses and daylilies. I love just about every daylily I've ever seen so would buy them in bulk, but a few times I bought daylilies that were both named and trendy and they were costly.

I still think we overpaid for our master bath reno a few years ago. The contractor was a friend/fellow church member and came recommended by a couple of friends. I think I could have managed a couple of subs and had the work done for about half the price. And better quality too. I still shake my head at a few things he tried to pull and did in a couple of cases with installation issues. Fortunately those were minor and we got them fixed. Then his cancer returned and he passed away, so we had no more recourse.

House painting quite a few years ago. Husband of a coworker. Took weeks for them to finish and it wasn't great. Spent a heck of a lot of money.

Nothing major. I’ve pretty much skipped using coupons or grocery saving apps for now. No stopping at drug stores or anything other than groceries about every week-9 days I go in the store and get out-no loitering. Tomorrow I’m trying contactless Walmart grocery pick up. They put it in your trunk-you stay in the car. No fee or upcharges and it says employees can’t be tipped but appreciate good service marks on a following survey. Our state is going to a phase one of easing the lockdown on Monday. The news keeps saying there will be a second wave of covid in the fall. If that happens, I will only do the grocery pickup if I like it

Walmart. com had a big 34oz hand sanitizer for under $4. I paid $6 shipping on it. not sorry-I can refill the pumps in the car when they run low. There’s never any sanitizers in the store

Two weeks ago DH did the shopping as I was ill. We needed meat and chicken. He came home with a whole, organic chicken for $15! Usually I can buy Foster Farms or other major brands for about $5.

I just paid $8.98 for 2 ounces of vanilla extract. Way overpriced, but it will last for a while. I also managed to grab one of the two 1 pound packages of instant yeast that were on the shelf, first yeast I've seen in a couple of months. That was overpriced as well, $4.98 for the pound. I usually buy Fleischman's instant and that costs $1.98 per pound. But after reading what Lars paid, I am okay with $4.98. :)

I'm overpaying for everything these days at the grocery store. Before the Rona, I would look at the ads and go to 4 different stores to get the best prices on everything that I needed, all within blocks of each other. Now, I go to only one store so I don't have to get out any more than that.

We overpaid for having our main sewer line redone with a fiberglass lining. I always shop big jobs like that where I have no experience, but we were sitting there with a hole in the line, two holes in the ground and now working plumbing. I never want to go through something like that again.

One other thing I didn't shop was the addition we did to the house. We called back the same contractor who had done work for us before and because he was sensitive to the character of our house, we liked him and I knew it was a reasonable price we moved forward. He quoted us three months (which would have been considered in the price) and he went 4+ with only two change-orders. So whether we paid too much or not, it was a fair price for the job.

Yes, it is just on going. I used to shop meat sales and pick up when on sale just what I needed for the week. I now just buy when I see it and if I can find a place to freeze it. I told my husband, big deer hunter and fisher, we would have to find a place for an extra garage freezer if this keeps up.

Yes, we eat all the deer and bass, but I do like some change from time to time, lol.
