Refreshing to hear some good news!

I read that the ventilators, pushing air into your lungs can and have been killing patients. Remember everyone wanting more ventilators? Well......not now...maybe...?

I have wondered about the use of ventilators using increased levels of oxygen. Years ago I worked in the medical records department. One of my tasks was to copy patients files. One I remembered with horror was someone who developed ARDS while in the hospital. Unlike most the instructions were to copy all of the mentions of ARDS so I had to read it. The person had several admissions and at that time if you developed ARDS you died as it destroyed your lungs. Years later there was a news story that someone had survived without having their lungs destroyed. A doctor thought outside the box because it was known the air pressure was part of the destruction. The doctor used a preemie ventilator rather than an adult one. There are so few preemie ventilators available and unless someone read the reports would probably not be aware of the use nor the idea of using less pressure rather than more.

One of the doctors here was saying the same thing. Said heir lungs are already compromised and the respirators seem to be beating them up further. Reports are that only 20% of people on respirators survive. Think this is why?

Here's some more good news...an antibody from a llama shows promise in preventing the virus from infecting cells.

The new antibody, which is based on antibodies produced by llamas, neutralizes a key protein on the virus, called the spike protein. The virus uses this spike protein to invade human cells.

"This is one of the first antibodies known to neutralize SARS-CoV-2," Jason McLellan, associate professor of molecular biosciences at UT Austin and co-senior author, told The University of Texas at Austin News.

So far, the team has shown only that the antibody works in vitro on a fake version of the coronavirus. (The technical term is pseudotyped, which means a version of the virus that can't infect people, but does display the spike proteins). The team plans to soon conduct trials on animals, and then, depending on those results, on people.
