Some good news for a change...

Do any of you remember a few years back when the doctors told us that my grandson Bradley only had one kidney because the other one didn't grow.

It was tiny like the size of a peanut.

Then a couple years later they said it had grown a few millimeters but would probably never be functional.

Today both the kids had their annual check up for their kidneys. They both have Kidney reflux. I went in with Brad while my daughter when in with Taylor.

I got to watch them do a ultrasound on him...and saw his kidneys...the left one is now only a tad smaller than the right one.

So we ask the doctor about it. They said they saw no problem with the kidney. Everything looked fine.

They had told her he should never play contact sports or even baseball. Now it looks like if he wants to it will be okay....

Now isn't that something good to hear...!!!!

Tell me about it! My fence solution turned out to be a baited, single-strand electric with the proper charger and grounding to deliver a good jolt. It's been running for 21 months and nary a deer... Except a month ago when I accidentally left it off and the gate open for a week while on vacation. Then apparently the whole herd came in through the gate and discovered the sweet potato vines while aerating most of the rest of the garden. Shutting the gate and rebaiting did the trick, but they are not shy once they find a weak spot! I agree, if the deer are hungry and resources are limited (as in suburban settings or in deep winters up north) then good luck! I feel very lucky that my deer have acres and acres of other fodder so that what I have is merely convenient for them, not neccessary. And me and the dog do what we can to make in inconvenient.

Kaismom--I've had plenty of meltdowns in the past 18 months of this, but I've been fine lately. We almost did this when I was pregnant with our second, but I convinced DH to wait until after she was born to start. Briana--I feel for you living with someone else. We've been so fortunate enough to have a decently sized house to live in for the past 8 months so we didn't have to squeeze down too much. Yes, I think we're realistically about a month behind. I'd like to say less, but I'm tired of under estimating! I would have said 3 weeks until today when I found out that drywall would take about 8-10 working days. For some reason I thought it would only take a week. Beagles--I hadn't thought about the stress of living with the kids in a kitchenless house with construction still ongoing. Maybe we'd better plan for a 3-month apartment lease and stay there until the house is further along. Celine--Yeah, some stuff is a bummer. The progress feels good though. I can't wait to see your kitchen done! Hurry! Patriot--I'm sure I'll be happy with it too. I appreciate your help in my path to buying it.

That is wonderful news! My oldest DD had reflux and serious kidney infections until she was about 7. But we didn't know it because she had no symptoms. Our doctor said he had seen only one other asymptomatic case, and that was during a little boy's autopsy. So we always considered Friday, March 13th our very lucky day when we found out. She had surgery to reimplant her ureters and had to be on antibiotics a total of 2 years, but did well. She has only one functioning kidney, but has 2 healthy kids. Although she came down with pre-eclampsia after her DS was born and was pretty sick for months. She's not having more kids, which is a relief for her mama.

My daughter has reflux on both sides. She had surgery when she was two, but she still has some reflux. She has to be careful for the rest of her life.
I'm glad he is doing so much better.
