Help! Need Ideas for Photo Organization & Storage!!
Comments (15)Camlan: you are one awesome ~ and super organized~ person! You've inspired me and I love your ideas and system!!! I'm following your system. After I read your suggestions, I ran down to the local Dollar Tree where I picked up 10 large plastic shoe boxes, ($10) which will temporarily hold my photos as I sort through them. I also bought 2 packs of (20 total) manila file folders ($2) that I'm going to cut up into dividers for each box to categorize the pics by year and then subcategories for events, holidays and whatever. I like your idea about scanning the best onto flash drives. I can store the master FD in our safe deposit box, I guess. I'd like to create DVDs with special events, holidays, vacations on them vents on them and then make copies for our two kids . . . eventually. I just went back to look at my intimidatingly huge box of photos and I'm so glad that I now have a plan of action to deal with them! Thank you for taking the time to put your ideas down for me and for many of us here who are in similar situations. I really appreciate it! Now, has anybody created their own DVD's from their scanned photos? I do want to make up some myself. I'm too frugal and too creative to have some company do it for me . . . but is it very difficult to do if you have a good photo scanner? Did you use any special program? DLM: I totally agree with you, I know many people that would love to hire Camlan to do this for them. Goldie: good luck with your own project. And, yes, definitely archival-quality albums and photo boxes. Eandhl: good idea and one I'm going to use: get rid of all copies (and similar) photos right away. Thanks! Dedtired: I'm right there with you regarding the albums. I've run out of space for more! Lynn...See MoreGiving out wedding photo negatives to a friend.
Comments (7)Here's Nita's post A good friend of mine's asked my husband to do her wedding pictures. My husband is not a professional photographer, but he has a good camera and takes pictures for friends and family as a gift if asked and for special occasions. He has been doing this for years and has his own policy of not releasing his negatives. He will however, make as many pictures from the negatives as they want, sizes included. Sometimes that is an additonal gift and sometimes he will charge exactly what it costs to reproduce. We do not profit at all from his picture taking. He never charges any fee. It is one of his hobbies and he does a pretty good job. My friend was having a small wedding and asked my husband to take the pictures. I toldher that he would be happy to do so and that it would even be our gift to them, album included. I told her that he did not release his negatives and she said that she wouldn't need them anyway...that she just wanted the pictures. I might add that I was her Matron of Honor. We prepared the album, gave them all of the remaining pictures, be they good or bad shots and told them to choose some to reproduced into larger sizes. Today she called me and said that the groom's sister wants to borrow the CD to scan and do her own thing. She said that she sis in law would return the CD. Hubby tells me that a CD is the same as negatives and that he does not give those out. He said that he will reproduce anything that they desire. He said that no photographer wil release his negatives or cd's. I am in a bad place because these are friends and I feel that we may have some hurt feelings here or something to mar our friendship. We have spent over $100.00 so far including purchasing the album. I do not have the exact figure. He took a lot of pictures, rolls and rolls. Are we wrong? Should we concede because they are good friends. GIve me your input....See MoreWho to hire to hang photo gallery on stairway wall?
Comments (11)Who's gonna dust all of that? Change the light bulb in the fixture that lights it? As the homeowner, you need to own a ladder that can help you do all of that, and once you do own that, YOU can do the installation yourself. With a stairway and an extension ladder, you can do some simple boards for scaffolding. And then be able to do that again when you need to get up there to dust the tops and clean the glass on the art....See MoreTest photo to see if I can work out how to do it.
Comments (5)Lois, what a beautiful rose and exquisite photos! I'm glad you were able to share these images. I have had better luck attaching photos after the initial post, uploading to the comment section below the entry after my initial post has been submitted and made an appearance. How did I miss Windermere on my radar? DA should hire you for his catalog production! Carol...See MoreZalco/bring back Sophie!
