Main floor Master Bedroom in Bungaloft, reno dilemma due to entrance
Comments (7)I would prefer it in the family room to the foyer. I wouldn't like my bedroom entrance in the foyer, and I wouldn't want to walk out of the main part of the house everytime I needed to go in my bedroom. My only hesitation would be how it affects furniture placement in the family room. Well, you could add reach-in closets to the nook between the walk-in and the far wall. On the wall shared with the family room. In addition you could also move the doorway for the closet into the hall, directly across from the ensuite door, and close up the existing door. That way you gain a whole extra wall for storage. And the closet will be easily accessible from the the ensuite and the bedroom and the entrance (nice for when you are putting away laundry, save you some steps). Get a more logical closet system and you'll have a nice space there....See MoreMaster Bedroom floorplan dilemma
Comments (22)There are many on GW who don't like pocket doors. I'm NOT one of them! If they are done right, they're great! One needs a very heavy, solid wood door for privacy. The woodwork slot into which the leading edge of the door fits when closed, needs to be deep - far deeper than is typical here in the US. When it is, the fit is good and the door is as sound-proof as a normal hinge-hung door. I learned this 2 years ago while renting a very high end house in London for a week. I have pocket doors in my own house - 4 to be exact. I have no problem with them except they don't close quite as closely as I would prefer. When I looked at the pocket door to the bathroom in London, I could quickly see why it worked so well - a deep "pocket" for it to close into. It made no noise at all while being closed. I have a feeling that all pocket door hardware is not created equal! The top quality hardware will be quiet and seamless. This is not the place to save a bit of money....See MoreHELP! design dilemma! dark, north facing master bedroom paint
Comments (6)I dont like the idea of a wall to wall shelf or any other shelf over a bed. I have visions of something coming down and landing on the occupant or occupants of that bed. I do like the color and sconces etc, in the post above by Laura. It looks great. I also would want draperies on the window. The rods should be moved out a bit, so it looks wider and put the draperies on and pull to the sides, so the window itself is open. Paint one wall white and then view it for a day or two in all lights and see just how it works in your room....See MoreMaster bedroom remodel- Master closet location dilemma
Comments (14)Keep playing with drawing til something makes sense. I tried to sketch something out, let's see if I can attach it. Did you want to add a tub, or just a bigger shower? If windows can be added to the left wall, it would really add more possibilities! I made the bigger closet skinny so the window light still comes in. This loses the hall closets so it may need more work. I am not a big fan of the hall between the closets, it was my attempt to keep the window. Either of the closets where the master was could be removed to be a sitting area or a desk area. Obviously I am not a professional. I just like looking at and thinking about floor plans. I am sure others will jump in to improve my sketch by criticizing it lol. I left the toilet and one sink in place. I think the shower could use the same drain and it would not be too bad to extend the pipes to make it bigger, and add the second sink. The entry point is a bit crowded but I was having trouble adding a second sink if I made the bathroom door by the closets....See More- 4 years ago
