??Tulip LEAVES - what's eating the tops off??
Comments (15)Well....I DO have the slug problem on my hostas, but this isn't from them. Always know by the shiny 'slime' trails. Nooo, this seems to be more of what others have been saying. The "stealth" bunnies. BUT - I'll tell you a trick I learned somewhere. If you have access to gum-balls (can't even say what kind of tree they come off of)...I was told to create a circle around my hosta plants as they sprouted. The slugs don't like the prickly parts. And as they grew last year, I just expanded the circle of gum-balls around the leaves so they could not crawl up onto them. It worked GREAT. So I guess it would work with anything else??? Just an idea. Don't know about other plants but seems it should work for anything?? bonnie...See Morewhat causes leave twisting??
Comments (6)They definitely twist if they touch something. But Fred is right - some of them have a genetic trait to go noodles no matter what. I had it with a Taffetta Petticoats - there always a leaf or 2 that wants to hug the rest of them. I do not think that all girl and curly leaves do it, mostly they grow OK, but not as perfectly symmetrical as "boy" leaves regarding getting the Best in Class at the show. But good enough to enjoy it at home. There are may be 30 varieties that grow naturally symmetrically for the show - but we want more variety in our home collections. Regarding the NOID that curls, sports and irritates you - either send it to compost - or give it to somebody who will enjoy it as is. There are so many beautiful varieties that will give you enjoyment - there no sense to waste your time and space on something that drives you nuts. I think you will have fun with girl leaves. irina...See MoreTulips have bloomed, what's next?
Comments (17)sowthefriken, sorry to hear about the disappointing show. Errgh! I believe that company actually sells imported bulbs that they have found return. I've had some of the smaller tulips return. This year, I was surprised by some that I didn't get around to pulling last year. They were greiggi (sp?) I had the most lovely show of species tulips and muscari this year! I planted them in between some young iris and along the Hades strip. I loved them so much and the show was at least a month long that I'll order the collection again next year. I don't know how well they will come back. BUT I have clusiana cynthia return for several years (the yellow and red) and the white and red is anothe clusiana. Muscari and dwarf daffs have returned in the past so I am very hopeful. I think tulips are a lot of trouble, but these days I think roses are more trouble. Here is a link that might be useful: species mix...See MoreYearly issue with only a couple of my peppers
Comments (22)Hi Sugi! don't I know about losing tabs. It happens to me all the time. Monday night I wrote out this long post to share with you then I lost it. And it was past midnight..... Thank you for the tips for purchasing Gochugaru. I haven't actually been to Korean market yet. There are many around here and I want to get quite a few things. We are liking Korean food more and more, its going to be fun. You are a dream to want to share precious seeds. Maybe when I am ready to germinate again? Meanwhile let me look if I can find a source I can buy from, I don't want to dig into your stash even though you are being so generous. I would be interested in both the green and red types. I will keep in mind Yeongwol and Kitazawa and Hanyang Put Gochu. The reason I wanted to grow Gochugaru is because I wanted to have the red peppers fresh. I imagine they would be delicious fresh if the powder is so fragrant and tasty. So are the ripe peppers had fresh as well as dried and powdered? For me too, I could not grow these peppers for powder. One uses the powder by the tablespoonful's! Your put peppers looks amazing. I hope you are enjoying them! I would definitely want to try to grow something like that. I can't do anything right about the wrinkling and crinkling of leaves. The issue has got me completely beat. maybe its not yet the right time for me to solve the problem. K....See Morerobert567
