looking to give bedroom more personality- accent wall?

Hi everybody. We’re looking to give our bedroom more personality and we’re looking for suggestions. So far we’ve debated doing an accent wall behind our bed. We’re not sure what color would work best. Besides that, we thought about a big piece of art or a long floating shelf for plants above the bed where the accent wall would be. We’re also talking about hanging the tv and mirror on the wall and putting some decor on top of the dresser once the tv is mounted. We already ordered an area rug. The picture attached is the rug edited into our bedroom. Thanks in advance!

Layer the bedding with complementary colors like you see below.

This rug might work for the room.

Yes to the rug and a large piece of art over the bed. Also maybe real reading lamps on the nightstands?

I think it is based upon an object at Mount Vernon and not a room color. If you read the description of the fandeck, you can kind of tell which colors are room colors and which are "inspired by" colors. The room colors are mostly greens or blue-greens with white trim or white with green or blue-green trim, it seems. Actually I think you arrived at these three (or five, including the Burnt Umber and Inkwell) by a certain process of elimination of what was going on in other rooms and by wanting a saturated color. That leaves Blue, Red or Yellow as the primaries and you used a Dark Blue elsewhere, --or Green or a Neutral which is Brown or Black. I don't think you want a chrome yellow bedroom, or hazard orange bedroom so you are considering all the reasonable options available.

My living space is Glidden's "Universal Grey" -- a really pretty neutral light grey, with "Royal Navy". It's hard to see, but this shows both colors side by side (right corner) I also have a marble mural in my dining room that pulls in the navy, and adds a bit of white, grey, and a rusty orange/brown, if you're looking for something bold! It was super easy to install, and completely changes the look of the room--you can buy it here. Hope this helps!

You may want to start saving inspiration rooms you love; it will really help if you have a direction. I would purchase the rug fist vs bedding and cushions so you have a style to build on. Be sure to use various colors, patterns and textures so it feels more interesting The headboard is high and I think art above each night stand would be more complimentary and use small brass lamps for a modern look. You could add the sign on another wall If you need a bedskirt, a more tailored style would feel more modern Dresser and tv wall - mirror, plant, chair, art, baskets

All that decorative relief is made of a molded wood putty and it's been glued to the drywall. It can be scraped off. Not sure if that will necessitate replacing some drywall. Looks like the layered tray ceiling could be completely removed to give you a higher ceiling throughout the room. Remove the ceiling medallion, and paint out some of the trim that is currently highlighted in white to simplify the ceiling design. You have to decide whether you want to spend a little or a lot to get rid of the current style. Paint is your least expensive tool. Since the room is so very vast, you have the option to keep a transitional appearance with a few vintage accents in art and accessories.

I would paint whole room to compliment rug vs doing a focal wall, which may make room feel smaller. There are so many options for above bed; I would skip a shelf and plants..need something more impactful.

Layering bedding would also look good.

Adding drapes will really warm up the room and Ikea has nice choices at good prices. Suggest a black rod.

I would place the mirror on inside of closet door. Adding a bedside lamp would be handy.

Add baskets around tv and in corner add a plant and wall becomes so much more interesting.

By looking at lots of inspiration pictures you may see a look you want to go with for your room. Take your time and add slowly. Have fun!
