In-fence mailbox for mid-century ranch
Comments (3)I searched for large mail box, and about half way down the page I saw the perfect solution. Someone had mounted an old microwave oven on a post! Probably doesn't meet USPS standards, though. ;-) Didn't see anything like the Australian one. You might check with the Post Office to see if they have vendors for special units like in apartment buildings and offices. Amazon has their own package lockers. If it's easier, though, you can pick up at FedEx and UPS stores, and Walgreens now has package pickup in some stores (here in Philly, anyway). I don't know which shippers they support. Then there's the problem that sometimes you don't know how the package will come and can't specify....See Moreadding curb appeal to 70's mid century ranch
Comments (22)A definite YES to the new porch column and railing. If your porch is less than 30" from the ground you shouldn't even need a railing although it may be your preference to have one anyway. Do like the idea of a garage door with a glazing (glass) in it somewhere. Perhaps the whole door could be glass? Good Luck!...See MoreNeed help with mid century ranch exterior entrance and more
Comments (15)Maybe a bigger project that you envision, but I would replace the porch surface with brick, add a broad, deep step off the porch and an equally wide brick walk to the street. Take out the odd little brick bed next to the house and use those bricks for the step, if nothing else. You could also remove all the brick bed areas and use them on the porch.Or you could replace the brick with concrete and face it with your own bricks sawn into 3 pieces to use as facing bricks. Pick up on that orange brick near the step to paint the front doors ochre or sienna. I would paint all the trim, porch siding, column and garage in back with a soft white like those two bricks just below the left corner of the front window. Replace or move your house numbers to the column or to the brick wall opposite it. Other than the azaleas, which I always love, I would replace any non-blooming plants with more azaleas or with low growing evergreen shrubbery that will stay below the windows without you having to maintain it....See Moreplease Help with my mid century ranch exterior remodel
Comments (4)Wow, I love your breeze block wall! Just a question, how white were you thinking of painting the house? To me, stark white is so ... styrofoam-y. But white with a drop or two of robin's egg blue, or mint-y green -- very very pale, just enough to hint at a color, would look fabulous in your setting with a bright yellow door. And might work better with all your cement than a more pure white....See MoreTaryn
