Two weeks ago they slightly loosened restrictions here. We sent our 21 yo DS to get tested. He had a possible exposure through a co-worker and he had a cough that would not go away but no fever. They did test him. The whole family was required to quarantine for 72 hours while waiting for the test results. It took a it longer than that to get the result though. I see this as a major limitation of the process. There are 4 working adults in this household and wonder how many times we could have to go through this quarantine process waiting for results. It is great that a test that gives results in 15 minutes exists but it does not mean much if you do not have access. DS test was negative but he still has that cough.

Still having trouble to get adequate testing even for health care workers let alone anyone else.

Very little testing here. It's mostly those in distress and being admitted and some patients with doctors who buck the system and push. Our friend's daughter and granddaughter got tested but they have 'connections' through local social services agencies.

I just saw on the news about new drive-up testing pop-ups this week, one not too far from my house. IDK if a person needs a referral to go there or not.

I'm concerned, or at least curious, about the amount of (or lack of) testing being done in my province. We're a small, mostly rural province with a population of about 775,000. As of yesterday, there have been 10,742 tests completed.

The provincial government has recently expanded their testing criteria, and now have provided a list of symptoms saying anyone exhibiting 2 or more symptoms is eligible for testing. But the demand doesn't seem to have jumped as much as I would have thought. With the new testing criteria they're doing about 400-500 tests per day which is significantly more than they were doing earlier, but still doesn't seem like a lot (and is comparatively less than most other provinces).

Part of me worries we're missing a big part of the picture by not testing enough, but on the other hand, the hospitals are empty and what testing they are doing isn't turning up many new cases. There have only been 4 or so new cases found in the last week - - the last several days have actually been 0 or 1 new cases. Our total stats are 118 cases, 26 considered active, 92 recovered, 5 in hospital - 3 in ICU. Best of all, no deaths.

I'm not sure of the exact criteria for testing in my county, but when I Googled it I found that my county has one the highest rates of testing in the country!

Maddielee, I am in Tennessee. I do not know how long it takes to get results. I did see the Health Dept. head today state that after this weekend's massive testing, the lab will be overwhelmed. I believe there are special drives again this weekend and maybe next. She did state something about a rapid result test. I didn't hear exactly what she said - whether it is not available or not dependable. She did indicate a good antibody test is not in use yet (maybe hasn't gone through FDA?) - sorry I was multi-tasking when she was on.

DLM, He does have allergiesk but I do not think they are the main cause of the cough. Most of the family had a cold right before covd was recognized in the state but we all got better except for DS who has had this lingering cough. He complains that his ab muscles hurt from the coughing. It has persisted for at least 3 weeks now but his test was negative. I of course worry that this compromises him so that if he were to catch covid that he would have a harder time fighting it, even though he is young. Other than giving him Emergen-C immune plus (vitamin C, D and zinc) and making sure he eats well and sleeps there is not a lot else we can do though. I hope you are at least able to clear your cough soon.

I have been watching what Mayo Clinic has to say about serology testing for antibodies. Fairly recently, there wasn't a test that was reliable and scalable. As of 13 April, they state that their initial capacity will be 8,000 tests per day, working 24-hours-per-day, and a target turnaround time of as close to 24 hours as they can get. The linked article for their website discusses who should be tested first and timeline for when a person is likely to have generated antibodies.

The article mentions that they have a separate molecular test to detect very recent or active infection.
