Restore a Finish is product that refinishes a stained wood piece without striping. You can buy it with or without colorant. And oh gosh I forgot to mention, like camlan did, that the rush seats probably are removable. Mine were on my island chairs. I just popped them off before I repainted the chairs. This time I stained the rush seats themselves and painted the chairs. (I bought the chairs painted for those of you that know me well enough to be shocked that I painted good wood). I too have heard of the remedy that bliegh mentioned, but thought it was for water marks. I doubt it could hurt to try. It is a white mark. Here is a link that might be useful: Restore A Finish

Shelly2, i've had great luck with the gel stains. All the pieces i've done have been on the larger side, and came out looking very good. You need to 'brush out' little bubbles and excess stain, but to me that's just common sense, just like painting. It's better to put on less rather than more. With 3 coats, I had the perfect depth I wanted. I mixed 2 corlors, but don't remember what they were, but dark was what I wanted, also. As for the dark brown paint, I don't care for paint 'trying' to give the effect of wood. My BFF did a dresser in a dark brown paint and I think it looks awful. I can't tell her that, but it's not the same, or even close, to looking like stain. If you decide to paint, chose a color instead. ;o)

Hello, was wondering if anyone could give me advice on reviving this Lane coffee table. I found it at the flea market super cheap with hopes of bring it back to life. It’s not In great shape. All scratches are surface scratches nothing you could get a finger nail caught in. If any one had any advice it appreciated. (Does any one know type of wood? And if I should use a varnish or an oil?) thanks in advanced.

I would get a really beautiful piece of cloth with great colors and handmade design in whatever style you like and put a piece of glass over it.
