Need Help with Curb appeal for 1950s Ranch
Comments (1)But what about the rest of the lawn? And lower plantings may appeal, but a few larger ones (well maintained) will keep the front of the house from looking forlorn....See MoreCurb appeal tips? 1950s Cape cod
Comments (3)Replace roof with dark gray shingles. Replace small windows in dormers with larger windows to scale adding trim around each. Remove storm door and add trim around front door and around lower level windows as well. If you can, add panes to all windows. Add veneer stone to match existing rock wall. add new light fixtures each side of front door and above garage door. Remove all plantings then add climbing roses each side of stairs. Add ground cover at top of stone wall that cascades over softening lines. Remove metal awning replacing with wooden portico extending from existing roofline. Remove wrought iron railing and replace with wood/pvc/vinyl.Personally I would paint the brick a pale gray and add black or dark gray shutters, both of which are classic colors for cape cod style houses. Good luck....See More1950s Small Vanilla Ranch Needs Colors ! Help!
Comments (8)No window boxes or shutters on this house.I would really consider some larger windows for sure. As for the door get a MCM one in a color that will go with the brick. No pergola and not painting the garage doo to make it even more of a focal point than it is already .The best way to have a better entry is to run a wide sidewalk from the street to that entry so removng all the tall shrubs beside the house will allow that to happen . then check out some MCM walkways .If you can’t doo larger windows then wiiden the trim around the ones you have. And BTW espresson colored wood would never have been used on this house A nice addition would be a nice natural cedar MCM garage door with the same cedar in the entry .That new garage door would then at least have some design elements that suit the house...See MoreExterior help for a 1950’s New England ranch (pictures)
Comments (6)Hi jjags. I do like your color selections except for the front door. You might consider making one of the two front doors a lot more prominent as I don't know which one currently is the actual front door. There are several ways to address this confusing issue including but not limited to the following; 1. Extend the porch out farther for the real front door. 2. Paint the non front door & railing a color that blends in with the siding color. 3. Address landscaping to help direct your eye to the real front door. 4. Paint the real front door a BOLD COLOR and not a shade of black. 5. Also, as you said, no shutters is a good idea. Best of luck on your project.
