Comments (20)My goodness, gsweater and suseart. I just don't understand your posts. gsweater, accusing a long time member, a well respected and extremely knowledgeable member of the vine forum of being some kind of "creeper stalker", is really out of line to say the least. Apparently you are new to the vine forum on GW, but not knew to posting on other garden forums on GW. Yup, I did a search of your member name on both GW and the vine forum and the only posts you have on the vine forum are on this thread. You do have over 80 posts combined on other forums though, so you are not new to GW or the rules of GW and the forums. Apparently you either don't remember them or just disregard them when you choose to and post accusations about another member at will or your post was a provocative one, posted deliberately in an attempt to incite a confrontation with the member you accused of being a "creeper stalker" because of some kind of history you have with this member. Based on your post, suseart, on this thread "lol, some things never change..."; Well it is quite obvious what both of your intentions where, and it is unfortunate that you both accomplished your goal of creating a confrontation for no apparent reason other than you both "tag teamed" with the desire to create a problem. GW rules are quite explicit about this kind of behavior not being allowed or tolerated, but then again, you are well aware of that and apparently just don't care what the consequences may or may not be. The kind of provocative post that you both posted have occurred in the past from other members, they seem to come around to this forum, every so often, and repeat the exact same kind of behavior as you just did. They don't last long on the forums before the "powers that be", resolve the issues based on the rules of the forum. Comments (74)After this was posted the first time I got to thinking that maybe I should have picked something else for my counters. (I'm a marketing grad and still the biggest second guesser of all my buying decisions). My mom is redoing her kitchen and I was taking her around to a variety of places one of which was our counter place. They sell granite, marble and silestone products. I was surprised when my mom said she wanted to look at the silestone products and when I asked why (as I'm drooling over the granite) she said she found the granite too busy. I was shocked> We went and looked at the silestone which they had in slabs and she fell in love with the coolness and the calmness of the stone. I, on the other found them to be cold and boring. She walked through the silestone aisles and I went back to the granite aisles and we were both happy. That's why there are choices out there - none are right or wrong just what is right for each of us. This visit confirmed that the granite was right for us....See MoreI bet I'm the only one who has ________.
Comments (126)Oh. Mah. Gawd. You guys are freaks -- freaks, I tell you! And I love you all the more because you're so freeeeaky! There is some amazingly awesome stuff in this thread. Makes me want to add even more bizarre stuff to my house, because, really, who wants to live without humor and whimsy and ... freakishness in their lives? ;-D Well, I'm the only person I know of whose house is Tudor cottage in the outside, Little Mexico on the inside. What's odd is that I recently learned from the woman who grew up in the house in the 40's that her mother was fluent in Spanish and had a love affair going on with the Latino culture. I had sent this woman some current house pix, and she said her mother would have loved it. Here are a few of my oddities: This hideous little truck - how I love it! It's moved from my kitchen to my living room mantle. My nephew came over one day and played with it, and ended up gouging the wooden bun feet of my sofa with it. ::sigh:: I have a Tatouage chicken on my hallway wall: There's a rusting rooster guarding my side entry: And a scary troll dude sitting on my front porch....See MoreI have missed work and now am in trouble......
Comments (44)I find it despicable that some employees have no rights concerning sick days It's not that employees don't have rights concerning sick days. It's that there are not separate and additional days given for sick time. No one says you can't get sick or that you can't have time off if you are. They are saying that if you ARE sick, you can easily prove it with a doctor's note. If you need time off you can use vacation time or take the time without pay. If you knew your employer was OK with 5 days a year as sick time, for example, you would use them. Maybe a few of those days you would call in sick because you really were, but some of them were used for sick children, "Mental Health" fun days, a last shopping day before the Holidays, whatever. With Paid Time Off (PTO) you get x number of days throughout the year to use as you see fit. Vacation, sick, anything. If that's all you get then you need to budget those days and keep a few for illness. I agree that 2 weeks is pretty low, but it's not unusual. Have you watched the news lately? Companies are struggling to stay open; paying employees when they aren't at work is an expensive item. In some companies close to failure, employees have chosen to give up all vacation time in order to keep their health insurance. It was one or the other. Just for the record, your decision not to sign the warning has no effect one way or the other. All they'll do is put a post-it note on the paper in your file that says "Employee refused to sign". You were out. They told you not to do it again. They don't need your signature. Your refusal just makes them think you plan to do it again and then say "But I didn't know!". I stand on my prior advice. Don't fight them, just talk to them. What are you gaining by this? If your relationship with them was good, then you are destroying it. If it was shaky, then you've confirmed for them that you are a problem. If it was bad, then you've taken them one step closer to termination. Is there part of this story you haven't shared yet? You don't have to tell us any of this but you should consider that it may have had an impact on how this was handled. Did you not call in the first day within 30 min of your start time? Did you call in every day that you were out? (Usually it's a requirement). Were you written up the prior week for something unrelated to attendance? Did you come back in on Thursday in almost perfect health so they questioned whether you really were sick those days? Are you habitually behind in your work? Do you treat your boss with disrespect or anger? Do you often talk about how great it was at the place you worked last? You said you've been there 2 years so by now you know the people and personalities you work with. I bet you can figure out exactly why this happened. I'm not saying this was your fault - your boss may be a total jerk - but in a confrontation with a supervisor, the employee almost always comes out the loser. Time spent 'managing' your manager is time well spent. Don't fight; talk....See More- 4 years ago
