Can I top a 4 inch diameter larch tree 12 feet tall?

Under ordinary conditions I would never prune a Larch tree but I found this tree laying near a new construction area because it was in a new landscaping and had dried out so it and two other tall trees thrown away. I'm an experienced gardner and a rescuer so it was no question. However I didn't know what it was because they hadn't sprouted but when it did I noticed that it was a Larch tree which don't do well in Jacksonville Florida. Why they were planting one in the landscape here I'll never know but I put it in the pot and it sprouted out from top to bottom. It's already showing signs of heat distress. Can I top it in a bonsai way and keep it in a large bonsai container? They hacked half the roots off so it's already root pruned.
