If you and your hubby aren't DIYers and you have a large, busy family life, gel-staining your cabs may be more of a challenge than you anticipate. Sweat equity is a great way to improve one's home with little money but even a project billed as easy may not be easy for people who don't DIY. Instead of polishing the floors, can they remove the sheen - hone them - and seal them? Wear and tear should be less noticeable on a non-shiny surface. Honed surfaces are generally more prone to staining than polished but since the tiles aren't uniform in nature, stains will probably blend in. Good luck!

Were moving into the house but aren't going to do anything to the cabinets so I'm really looking for accessory suggestions on how to distract and have a more updated feel. We are changing the counter tops but they not in. Were going with a lighter cream or white granite with darker veins. The floor is a very light tan. Basically I'm imagining my kitchen will look like a traditional kitchen ppl usually do in a flip home. I don't want that but can't really change anything aside from accessories and other furniture that might give the room a more updated feel. As mentioned the walls are Parisian taupe. I feel like it's going to just be too yellow/tan feeling in the end. What kind of light fixtures, kitchen tables, colors, rugs, etc would help update honey oak cathedral cabinets with a lighter granite counter top and light tiled floor with Parisian taupe walls for example I found these ideas on Pinterest.

I originally had an inexpensive butcher block on it but changed that when I did the counters. While there are 3 stools at the island, really only 2 adults could sit there comfortably. I gave up the table space for the island, but my dining room is a step away and is not formal - flows with the kitchen and that is where we eat meals. I have hopes of widening the doorway between dining and kitchen just a bit. I want to keep two separate rooms, but the location of the fridge creates a traffic jam when getting dinner on the table. You have a pretty and functioning kitchen now so take your time. I found the sink I liked was much more than I had budgeted, so I put off my refresh while I saved up. A slide in range is more expensive then a regular one - I too looked at that and decided I wanted the money for other things - like the sink. Also, with a slide in you will need a heat/fire proof wall protector - usually a piece of stainless steel that goes behind the range and is easy to clean. Without the back part of the range going up, the backsplash area will get much dirtier and need to be easily cleaned. Tile alone does not always qualify as heat / fire proof because it can transfer heat to the wood studs behind. Do some research on this to decide if you really want to go that route.

grapefruit1_ar The countertop actually has specks of color in it but the color is sandstone. The tile floor is what I do not think will go with gray. I have been looking at BM Accessible Beige but do not want to much beige in the kitchen. I did look at some sage greens but just not sure. Thank you for your suggestion
