Part II: take a peek at my "soft modern" small kitchen design?
Comments (165)Hey feisty! Long time no see. What great progress you've made. And, yours is not the longest reno for a small kitchen. I'm right there w/ you, still! Don't start a new thread. Keep this one going so everyone can see the progress over time. I love love the tile! I actually chose blue like that for my backsplash. However, I haven't put mine up! So, as you can see, your reno is no longer than mine! I was moving along & doing well & then I brought it to a complete halt about 8 months ago. I'm now thinking about tearing my whole house down & building 2 on my lot! Keep one for me & sell the other. I'm still not sure if I'm going to do it, but I hate to put anymore $ into the kitchen, & whole house for that matter, if I'm going to knock it down. Still iffy on doing it, but am thinking seriously about it. We'll see. You have come a long way & it looks great. I think you should do the tile. I don't think it's going to be trendy & date the kitchen down the road. I thought the brass was going to be trendy, but it's still going strong. Go w/ what you like! I can't wait to see more!...See MorePlease Help! Design Challenged - Kitchen Hardware!!
Comments (9)My granite is Sienna Bordeaux/Typhoon Bordeaux (our granite yard used the name interchangeably). The whole kitchen remodel was planned around it. The big reveal will be coming -- soon I hope. Had a few glitches along the way. Range hood installation is taking very, very long. Contractor that was doing it didn't bother to pre-measure so that the vent was placed in the right place -- he thought the old vent space for OTR MW would be fine for a chimney hood --- wrong!!!!! (Only about 12" or 15" too low) So now, a lot of tile backsplash will have to be pulled out & bracing put in behind the wall (vent will run right through a stud). Anyway, I know you will choose beautiful hardware for your cabinets. There is so much to choose from!...See MoreHelp us with colours & design for this challenging kitchen upgrade!
Comments (16)a black slate (more of a dark gray) can look great in a modern style kitchen. The wood look tiles though, be careful as some can look rather cheesy. they are fast becoming dated because of this. have you considered some fossilized bamboo? this one from CaliBamboo is one of the better qualities. (they have all colors) https://www.calibamboo.com/product-grey-hardwood-floors-vintage-moonlight-9009008001.html? porcelain tile option or, think about feathering in some of the black hex tiles like this, or doing a cool effect w/lighter and darker tiles in a herringbone. these are the blues, but you could do just the white, or grays/blacks....See MoreHow to modernize the cherry wood floors/warmth in kitchen cabinets?
Comments (12)First things first: PAINT with WHITE PRIMER. Yes. Just get the walls READY for a new colour. Primer is SUPER cheap and SUPER USEFUL. It gets the walls ready for the EXPENSIVE paint...without pay for expensive paint+primer. Once you have the yellow walls covered you will see the REAL colour of the house. The kitchen really needs to have the yellow taken off the walls. And get the tiles off the backsplash. The other SINGLE option: new counter top. But I would only decide on that once I had gotten all the warm tones off the walls. For me the biggest issue for the house is the tile-like flooring. I'm hoping they are vinyl...that would make for an easy removal. If they are real tile...they will be expensive to remove and deal with. But first things first: cover your yellow walls with white primer. You will be amazed at how different the wood looks when it is not being washed with more yellow....See MoreAma Dee
