small space; where to put toilet paper holder/what kind?
Comments (7)Familiar question! My preference is to have it on a side wall next to the toilet, if there is a wall to put it on. I like it best in line with or just forward of my knee and about waist high when sitting. I find that makes it easiest to reach for the TP without learning or twisting (something I cannot do because of herniated disks). HOWEVER, we just redid the guest bathroom and I must have been asleep at the wheel when the architect specified the vanity size. The toilet is on a long wall between the vanity and the tub. There is about 21" between the vanity and the toilet and a little more to the tub. My options for the TP holder are (1) on the back wall behind the toilet, (2) on the side of the vanity and (3) opposite the toilet - about 3 foot span - on the wall where the towel bars are going. None of these are good options for someone who can't twist and reach and especially not for a child who, I think, might fall off the toilet just trying to reach! Had I been alert, I would have made the vanity longer than the 36" it is and mounted the holder on the side of the vanity, closer to the toilet. This is still not ideal because the vanity is only 21" deep and the toilet comes out beyond that so there would still be twisting to reach. I am reluctant to use a free-standing holder because the ones I have seen in peoples' homes look cheap and often seem to rust. Any ideas?...See MoreTissue Paper Wall Treatment with Silver
Comments (20)There are some good classes in glazing and faux finishing at a local paint store and the night school at our art college. You might look into taking a class or a one-day workshop. I learn best by seeing and doing. Alternatively, look for books by Jocasta Innes. She offers good recipes. I just stripped paper in two bathrooms to find underneath the walls from hell. Because they are too messy to paint, I had paintable wallpaper put up. There is one pattern that I wanted to use but it was backordered. You might like it...reminds me of rice paper. I will link it below. It seems to me that the smaller pattern would be less busy than the tissue paper, while still delivering the kind of look you want. I also think that the difficulty of any faux treatment is keeping the look consistent across the entire wall. Using wallpaper would help with that issue. Comments (22)I am raising two young grands...I go thru tons of paper towels which is why I made the switch to cloth. My bathrooms are stocked with a large'ish basket filled with cheap white face cloths rolled neatly for drying hands. A clean one each time and I've found guests expecially appricate this instead of using a community towel. I do not wash any kitchen towels with bath towels ever. I know we all have some amounts of ecoli near our....area....LOL. All of my towels, kitchen, bath, hands are white. I enjoy the clean fresh look of white. Elizabeth, as for frying foods I use paper towels, but I do little frying as it makes me ill smelling hot oil. I always have a few brown paper bags and next rare time I decide to be expecially nice to the family and fry something I'll use your method. Sounds like a great idea. As for the toilet. My hubs brings me stacks of cloth like disposable cloths home from work they work great for the toilets which get wiped down daily, boys ya know. Lets touch on disinfection while were talking about kitchen towels. Its a good idea to either use thermal or chemical disinfection since many times kitchen towels are exposed to raw meats or other foods with risks of bacterias. In other words either wash them on a sanitize cycle that truely heats the water to the proper temps (not all washers with a sanitize cycle actually engage the heater, some manufactures LIE) or use chlorine bleach unless your sure the towels wernt exposed to dangerous bacterias. Its really not difficult to keep white kitchen towels white, just don't be a cold water person. LOL...See MoreFluff post: prints on paper towels, napkins
Comments (38)I don't think I've even seen printed paper towels in a couple of years. I usually only order online at Target or Walmart so they will ship them and I get free shipping or I buy them at Target. I've always been cautioned to buy white toilet paper because the dyes cause problems for some women. I either have that shipped or buy at Costco. I only buy Kirkland brand or Scott brand although I currently have a case of Charmin because my neighbor gave me her stuff when she moved....See MoreOakley
